Clarissa is the name of DD. Clara and Cara are therefore out (too similar).

Aurora: Love the name. But the different r sounds in English are difficult to pronounce for me. Especially after the "AU" sound.

Eleyna: I prefer Helena or Elena

Samara: That's my grandfather's dog :( but it's technically a beautiful name, I agree.

Julianna... Hm, Maybe Guliana? Thank you so much for taking the time to suggest these.

I'm surprised... Aminta is actually a few centuries older than Araminta. And I do really like the name Blush

CatRash Well, I also like names ending with As. WHich is a bit obvious, considering my list, I guess Blush

Erika - looks very harsh- is the Swedish spelling

Well, my father is Swedish, that's probably why I initially spelled it like this.

But I changed the spelling to Erica. It's a bit flowery-er, isn't it?

I appreciate the feetback and who knows? Maybe I'll be back with a new list in a few weeks. But yeah. I think now is the time to stop obsessing with names for a short while(not too long. Or we may end up with a nameless LO...)

Susanna/h - Love this
Arielle - No fluffy and try hard
Ariella - same
Millicent - I like this - has character
Helena - Love this - classic and elegant
Eliana - don't like- know a few
Amynta - try hard and she will always be asked about it
Serena - Love
Louisa - Love
Annabella - dislike due to bitchy school mates in the 70s
Annabelle - above

I like Erica, Louisa and Serena. Apparently I like names ending is 'a' which is news to me!

Millicent just reminds me of Millicent Bullstrode who featured very briefly in one of the Harry Potter books (#3) and was in Slytherin (boo!). And for some reason it reminds me of Mrs Trunchball from Matilda...No idea why?

For some reason the image I get in my head, when i hear the name Millicent, is of a woman build like a brick s* house!

But if you like it just go for it!!!

I would go for Louisa or Susannah off your list. They somehow seem stronger than the others which seem a bit drippy and wet somehow.

Elisabeth - Fine. And lots of shortenings to give you, and her, choice as she grows up
Susanna/h - love it. And susie due for a revival
Millicent - awful. If you want to call her Millie just call her Millie. Don't saddle her with Millicent.
Helena - Ok
Amynta - People will think you can't spell Araminta, also just no.
Serena - Vicountess Linley. Dated, pigeonholing kind of name
Louisa - Love it
Erica - Doesn't lend itself to nicknames and doesn't make a nice sound when said
Antonia - Yuck. Sloaney and dated

Amynta - No. Sounds like you can't spell Araminta.

I prefer Aminta, sorry. Araminta... Idk. it reminds me of the bird. One of the colourful ones that make these sounds? (Shoot, I'm tired, which is when my English sometimes starts to drastically deteriorate. Sorry.)

well, if I ever actually got to know an other Arabella the cat lady, weird smelling house and stale cake association would probably be replaced. But as I said, I used HP to study. So, it's a quite prominent association.

I like Millicent.

My current favourites are probably Louisa, Aminta, Millicent, Helena and Antonia. But as I said, I love all the names that have ever been on that list Blush

Pahahaha don't feel bad, my comment was in jest I promise. I don't care what MN thinks of any of my kids names :) You shouldn't either - pick what you like the most.

She was named after super girl anyway, not a princess Grin

And... I can't bear Millicent which everyone else seems to be raving about. Different strokes for different folks.

Everyone has different opinions on names. As long as you love it - and it's not going to saddle your child with mockery as they grow up - then go for it.

My youngest is Arabella. Wink

I feel honestly awful. Well, I personally still love all the names that have ever been on that list, tbh.

I was told that DD's name (not on this thread, btw. When I considered it for her before she was born) was a "prissy, private school priness" or bitchy. ;)

Exactly, grouchy. Sure, she isn't too bad. But not one of my favourites.

I mean, if we're talking about favourite characters who also have great names I'd go with Nymphadora or Minerva. Narcissa (if there wasn't the meaning and the fact that eh... bit unsavoury).

What is this Scooby Doo?

I'll have to google that. Also Daphne in The Broons...

Arabella sounds lovely, I agree. So, I guess it should be in my wheelhouse.
But imo Arabella is the cat lady in HArry Potter (ok, she once hits Mundungus with catfood when he endangers Harry, but still). And I've only ever met one Arabella after moving to the UK, so that catlady assocation is still strong... (the HP books were how I studied English, so yeah...)

Unlike everyone on the thread most people, I really like Millicent. In fact it's the only name I do like on your list. It makes me think of Millicent Garrett Fawcett, which can only be a good thing.

I unfortunately love all names that are still on my list. (and even those that were removed, tbh)

Currently my favourite is actually Aminta (but with an i). It's lovely, pretty unusual and still pretty easy to spell imo :)
