I hope you don't take this the wrong way, and Im saying it as someone who has the same tendencies, but I wonder if you're overthinking names? Understandably as you're probably feeling the pressure with everyone wanting to know her name and exhaustion from the birth etc!

But maybe you shouldn't rule out names on possible nicknames. Most children will be given bizarre nicknames that are only vaguely related to their name, or not at all! Ruling out Liza (Lie-za), for example, in case she gets called 'Lie' seems a bit of a shame. It would be so unlikely!

Also, i really don't think you should rule out S names because your surname starts with S. My surname starts with E and if my baby is a girl, she will have a name starting with E. I know several people who have names like that, and lots of celebrities do too, and it really doesn't matter!

I guess no name is ever going to be perfect. All you can do is follow your heart and choose a name that you both love.

Good luck! PLEASE come back and tell us what you chose!

leonardthelemming · 11/03/2017 19:11

Two that nobody else seems to have suggested:

Araminta (Minty for short)

Mireille ('Ray for short - it's a French name that is very occasionally used in the English-speaking world. I met only one Mireille in 35 years of teaching).

AmserGwin · 11/03/2017 19:07

I love Esme
