Oh, zombie thread. How did this get resurrected?

midsomermurderess · 06/08/2020 15:05

I like Anjali, Priyanka and Meenakshi. I don't know anything about naming trends in India or Indian communities though. Would there also be regional trends too? I know Meenakshi is more common in the south of India.

I like Padma and Anandi.

midsomermurderess · 26/05/2018 19:15

I really like Anjeli and Priyanka but for all I know, they are the Mavis and Mildreds of girl names in India.

Cosmoa · 26/05/2018 09:35

@Logolphin Soraya isn't Indian, it's an ancient Persian name. And the middle name of my daughter!

Cosmoa · 26/05/2018 09:33

One of my favorite classical Indian singers is called Nirali ❤ and Anoushka (Shankar) of course!

Marioki · 25/05/2018 18:40

One of my school friends was Jaymini which I've always thought was nice but this was 30 years ago so I don't if it's a bit dated now.

Elizaveta, Nimit? Grin

I do like Savita though, and Vita is an ace nickname with a very auspicious (again, if these things matter to you) namesake.

MMXV · 14/03/2017 09:34

Very few will know or care about the semantics in the UK, so nobody is questioning your position in British society, Beatrice.

It's the Indian equivalent of calling your child Kate or Liz; a timeless and familiar name, but with an assumption that it's a shortened version of the real name.

beatricequimby · 13/03/2017 20:16

I didn't realise one of my dds had a non-U name. Will have to make sure she says toilet and lounge to fit with her name.

There is a reason why Priyanka isn't popular in the UK.
