When you hear the name Max...

Would you assume it's short for Maxwell or Maximilian?

DH and I both love 'Max' but agree it needs to be a bit longer on the birth certificate - but we can't decide whether it should be Maxwell or Maximilian and I'm curious to hear the MN consensus...

I would assume Max these days.

If you ask what's Max short for I would say Maximilian. If I had a Max (Which I don't) it would be Maximising.

This is exactly why we didn't go for Max - we were convinced we had to have a 'proper' name to shorten.

Now I realise how ridiculous that was, we should have just gone for the lovely Max 🙂

I'd assume (& hope) Maximilian as I love that name. Really not keen on Maxwell. Personally I prefer longer names on the birth certificate but, in this case I do think you can carry off Max on its own...

If pushed, Maximilian. Definitely not Maxwell. It's a surname.

IMO Max works fine on its own. My favourite longer forms are Maxim and Maximilian. All fab names!

I'd assume it was just Max which I love. It reminds me of the boy in Where the Wild Tings Are.

I really don't like Maxwell. Maximus is cool!

There's a Maxwell and a Max in DS's reception class. The 'Max' is short for Maximilian, but always shorted to Max. Maxwell is known by his full name. If you're only going to call him by the shortened version, it doesn't matter which you choose, but if you're thinking of using his full name much then I personally would go for Maxwell.

I was offered the choice by the registrar. I went for Max on the BC as I wasn't sure everyone would be able to spell Maximilian etc.
