Please never call a child Mireille, she might turn out to be like the only Mireille I have ever met who is a sad excuse for a human being.

I think Anaglypta is due a revival.........

There are rules Gummi, but (I think - non expert here), as long as the name wouldn't be in some way harmful to the child I think you can call them anything you like in the U.K. In Poland, a polish friend once told me, they have (long) lists of names and you can't pick anything else.

Sofithia reminds me of Forsythia - the weird virus drug in Contagion.

I like Aspen and Juniper. Those would be my picks. Our niece is called Primrose.

idk. Where I live there are official naming rules... Names have to be "real" names, shortenings aren't allowed (Annie or Rosie wouldn't fly...) and offensive names wouldn't be allowed either (you couldn't name your boy Mussolini, for example. Not that most sane, decent people would want to do that, I think...).

But I don't really knwo when a name becomes "real". Or stops being real, I guess...

I wonder there are rules about how old a name has to be? Do the registrar offices have lists?

Because all names were once made up.....

Actually though, I did know a girl in Paris called Villette. Apparently that is a rarely used name in France (or so she said. Maybe unique in the U.K.? I think it's very pretty.

Well, yes gummi, but a couple of us did ask the OP to expand a bit on what they mean by "very unique". If they want a totally unheard of / not an established name then I really wouldn't know what to suggest except make something up. If I'd heard of a name, it probably wouldn't be unique iyswim! Smile
