I'm a teacher and know a little Summer and Autumn, both lovely girls. Nice names!

I think it might be a bit overused. Massively popular a few years ago but dropping now. I know a couple, at opposite ends of the social spectrum, so it doesn't necessarily have any particular connotations for me, but I know some people are snobby about it (although I noticed quite a few Summer-Mae, Summer-Rae, Summer-Lily type hyphenations in the baby name stats which I would give a wide berth...)

In the local accent here it gets pronounced as 'Summa' which when shouted across the playground does make my ears bleed...

It's ok. It doesn't sound good shortened, IMO. We know a Summer, known as Sum-Sum.

Re nicknames, the only Summer I know is 6 and gets called 'Sums'.

I really like Summer - it sounds fun, adventurous, breezy, confident. I can imagine a model, a boho chic girl, a socialite, someone a bit left of centre with this name.
In Australia/UK It's not overused. Perhaps it is more popular in the US though. But it's not actually too popular when you look where it is in the popularity charts.
One thing I would say with this name, is that is doesn't really have any nn potential. For me, I like a versatile name with nn potential that can grow with the child/woman.

I love it and have never met an unpleasant summer. You find these names are very Marmite, but who cares? Your baby, your name and I think it's lovely Smile

My daughter is called Summer! She is almost 10yrs old. When we chose the name, I had only heard of one other Summer, but now I hear it a lot. It's such a happy, cheerful name, IMO.

I really like it. I see it as a lovely bright and sunny name, and a bit hippy and nature-loving too. I've only met one Summer so I don't think it's overused at all.

Objectively, I like it, and I like the associations with the season.

Subjectively, I think it sounds awful in my (Australian) accent: Summah.

Summer as a name does not have the greatest reputation.
For some reason other seasonal names are more accepted.

Overused. .
