Ok, we have narrowed it down to Otis and Cosima...

We have spent most of the day looking at, discussing and playing around with our LONG list of names and think we may have narrowed it down to Otis and Cosima!!!!!

So what do you think....

Otis was our top choice boys name but just as I found out I was pregnant, DHs mate called his son Otis. We found something equally fab.

It's a really old name, not made up at all. There was a saint Cosmas from the 4th or 5th century. It has been used in Europe since then.

Another one who doesn't like cosima sorry. If I heard it in a playground I would inwardly cringe and think what an awful name.

I already said I am open to opinions it that doesn't mean I have to agree with them!!!!! Also if I think someone is sprouting nonsense I will call them on it. Just because I asked for opinions doesn't mean you can come along say whatever you want and expect me to just shut up and put up!

Regarding the pronunciation I'm just discussing which pronunciation myself and my dh will go with...did I say I was laying down the law on which is the definitive pronunciation??? No I'd didn't!

You seem overly invested in this thread for some reason.

And shouts.... I ALREADY F**iING SAID I LOVE THE NAMES so are you trying to insinuate that I'm actually picking names for my child that I don't really like just to be different because that's bs and you know it!

Unless you have something groundbreaking to add to the thread I think at this stage you need to move on it's coming across a bit weird that you seem to care so much about what I'm naming my child

One of my daughters top 3 names, one outside top 100 - I just went with names I liked as should you. But don't come on here looking for opinions if you don't want to hear them good and bad.
You can decide on whatever pronounuation you like but people will just say whatever they think it says so get used to many mispronunciations now! One of my daughters has an Irish name and obs this is constantly said wrong. I knew this when I named her tho.

Thanks for the input on the pronunciation I think we have settled on Cozzy mah it just feels more natural and rolls off the tongue easier for us!

donkey I think you could be right on your summation re try hard being anything outside top100 for some people Grin

Like both names, think they go very well with your older children's names.

Fwiw I would pronounce Cosima as Cozzie-ma, have never met one in RL. Maybe it's because I am well into middle age but don't know the aardvark called Otis but "Try a Little Tenderness" Otis Redding was the first reference that popped into my head.

Speaking for myself I come to the Baby Names section for a nice break from other boards so always surprised when it gets a bit peppery. We can't all like the same names, (does 'try hard' just mean some name that's not in the top 100?).

Wrt pronunciation - COZ-immah is the way the Cosima I know says it. The emphasis on the Cos part is not as strong as the caps suggest but it is there.

I'd say Co-see-ma, emphasis on the 'see' part. Slight stress only on the 'z' sound. If that makes sense
