I'm feeling sorry for DS1 whose name is Archive. Sad Who would have thought it would end up being so unpopular. At least no one's mentioned DS2s name Microfiche.

I don't like hyphenated names either- too twee. And I really didn't want to choose a name that ends in "ee" sound: Evie/Emily/daisy/Archie/Alfie.... too cute. But that's just personal preference. I like stronger sounding names. Good job everyone has different tastes otherwise wouldn't the world be boring!

Also know someone with a Nevaeh.... because it's heaven spelt backwards..... OK Hmm

I have no problem with surname as forename names however cannot believe that Jackson is widely used with all the connotations of Michael.

Surnames as forenames

Names ending in "a" sounds - Ella, Noah, Eva

Stupid spellings of names. People sometimes ask me the spelling of mine and I am always vaguely insulted that they think I would have " that" spelling.

Any car names. Porsche, Mercedes, Sierra. I know they have other meanings but they just make me cringe.

Ooh the comment about dogs name has reminded me that I hate Tabitha - it's a cat's name to me. Have never met one but it's always mentioned on baby names threads.
Felix is the same because of the adverts.

Never really minded anyone's names but I know someone who called her daughter 'Rosabelle' which was just too sickeningly sweet. I always think you should think how much shit the child is going to face at school by your unwise choice.

I'm not going to add the names I dislike as I think the lighthearted aspect of this thread is impossible to achieve.

However I do have a query about the objection to surnames as first names. Do the names James, Grant, Thomas etc invoke the same irritation as the 'son' suffix names listed as examples above? If not, why not?

Came on to nod or shake my head in quiet (dis)agreement and there's my child's name. thought we'd found a rare ish name then as soon as we register it we start hearing it everywhere! it's threads like this that have caused the near extinction of Garys and Keiths. Shame on you!
