Reminds me of Mika song but for that reason I like it!

Mrsknackered · 26/02/2017 19:09

I think seeing as Skies is your surname and not a middle name it's actually pretty cool.
I've known in my time admittedly in dance school with pushy parents
But
Summer Brighton
Chyna White
Rosa Gold
Mercedes Ford
Liv Little

  • always thought Liv Little was quite cool maybe I need to live a little

So no, in the grand scheme of things Violet Skies isn't going to doom her.

reuset · 26/02/2017 18:17

I'm the first to call out a daft name, but I've heard far worse than this. I think you could use it, but I would think the parents were slightly left of field or had a sense of humour. Grin

I realise I've already commented. It doesn't sound like a porn star name.

user1487776842 · 26/02/2017 13:15

Some of these comments are shocking :| I quite like it, was going to call dd3 Aurora Skye :)

FellOutOfBed2wice · 24/02/2017 22:47

I know a girl with the surname Sky who's first name is a colour. When I first heard it I was most confused that anyone would name their child that on purpose.... but now I kind of accept it. It's a bit weird though. I don't think I would do it personally.

empirerecordsrocked · 24/02/2017 22:44

It's very fabulous.

Lucie
Alice
Harriet
Victoria
Catherine
Verity (my personal favourite)
Clara

HeadFullofSteam · 24/02/2017 22:40

I think it is a quite fabulous name.

Algebraic · 24/02/2017 22:35

I don't think it sounds like a pornstar, I actually think of a journalist introducing themselves!

I like it.

ElvenMoonwings · 19/02/2017 01:47

I think it's fine because Skies is your surname. I think we have our surnames chosen for us, pretty much, and so, within reason, we shouldn't have to choose first names which fit them too much; instead, we should just go - within reason - with what we like for first names. I mean, it's not like purple coloured skies are a bad thing. They're pretty, they're good. I don't think Violet Skies sounds comical or ugly, just a bit - what's the word - statementy, attention-grabbing, something like that.

If it wasn't your surname, it could be okay, but in that case it would just sound a little - obvious, blatant, statementy, attention-grabbing. Something more subtle would sound more elegant and pretty in that case. But that's just my taste.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 17/02/2017 12:26

I like it - it sounds like a little fairy in a book to me!

sycamore54321 · 17/02/2017 12:16

It sounds like a paint colour or a bathroom tile. I would really dislike a jokey or themed name, even if just first name-middle name, but especially if first name-surname as that is inescapable. I agree with the others, if one part of the name is also a noun/adjective/verb/adverb/other form of real word, then it is hugely better to give a name that is exclusively a name. Certain personality types might happily pull off such a name but others would be made miserable by it and you don't know yet which your child is. In an ideal world, nobody would ever mock, ridicule or bully over a name but the real world is different.

Best of luck with the search. Can you check out versions of your colour/nature names in other languages to see if there are any you like?

Marcipex · 17/02/2017 10:35

How about Rowan?
Rowan Violet Skies.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/02/2017 09:53

OP, I too have given this name some thought, and I think it's rather lovely too. Whatever name you do choose, someone, somewhere, will dislike it, or critisise it. Go with your choice, if it's the name you love.

HeadlessGummyBears · 17/02/2017 09:33

I also like nature/colour themed names and I think it sounds lovely. OP, you've got a great surname so go for names that you think will suit your DD best Smile

Besides, if some people can name their babies Autumn Rose or Ivy Rose, then there's nothing wrong with Autumn Skies or Violet Skies.

ReapAndSow · 12/02/2017 12:30

I've come back to this thread that I've been overthinking about the name Violet Skies and now think it's is a brilliant and lovely name. Its really nice.

CaoNiMa · 12/02/2017 11:54

I think with a surname like Skies, noun or adjective names should be avoided!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/02/2017 10:58

There are some dreadful names out there. Whilst I don't think Violet is the best name to go with Skies, I've heard far, far worse.
Don't be down hearted OP, we've given our honest opinions, it's up to you to make your choice. How about Willow ?

DarkLikeVader · 12/02/2017 09:48

Vivienne Skies is beautiful whoever suggested that- Would that work OP?

MollyHuaCha · 12/02/2017 09:30

Oh...sorry, need to keep up Blush

thebakerwithboobs · 12/02/2017 09:10

Molly Skies is her surname??

MollyHuaCha · 12/02/2017 09:06

I think you can have Violet or Skye with different additional names:

Violet Jane
Violet Susannah
Violet Eliza
Jennifer Skye
Isabella Skye
Marianne Skye

Rosa · 12/02/2017 07:37

omnishamblesssssssssssssss · 12/02/2017 07:35

Violet is great actually. Don't worry about the surname.

omnishamblesssssssssssssss · 12/02/2017 07:34

There's also viola and Celeste

SuperBeagle · 12/02/2017 07:30
