Opinions on our girls names please!

Hello, would love some opinions on our girls names, or suggestions of anything else you think we might like.

Shortlist is -

Isobel (dh choice, I like it but aware it's pretty popular)
Imogen
Matilda

Love Matilda! That's my first choice for a DD. Tilly for short x

I like Matilda best. I'm not keen on Isobel or Imogen. Matilda is becoming more and more popular I think though if that bothers you.

All lovely. Mattie is a nice option rather than Tilly. My son is in y4 and there are 2 Isabelle's and 1 Isobel, and a Matilda (Tilly). Imogen I can never decide...I sometimes live and other times not so much. Good luck x

Isabella is a little too frilly for me and I think eben more popular than the other options.
I thought imogen was fairly inoffensive, surprised some people have such a strong dislike for it! Thanks for all the opinions though

What are you going for squedgie, or would you rather not say? I think we are drawing similar conclusions to you, Imogen probably topping it at the moment.

I love your name choices! They were all on our list, but wont be using any Sad
We eliminated Isobel due to popularity of it and it's variants.
Matilda is becoming more popular so eliminated that, there's more than one at DD's small nursery.
Imogen got vetoed by DH in favour of the name we are going for.

Apparently Matilda was no 27 in 2015 England and Wales (43 where I live) and Imogen 34 England and Wales (31 where I live) - so I think around 1 in 200, and 1 in 240 Respectively in England and Wales.

I don't think the popularity at that level bothers me, but would rather not have a name that will be very 'of its time' if you see what I mean.

Thanks for the opinions. Good to hear some differing opinions (even if I don't agree with them!). Surprised that people think Imogen is prim and protentious, I don't know any Imogen's though so maybe that's why I see it as more of a blank canvas. Also hadn't realised Matilda was so popular, I only know of one who is 3 - we aren't London, or even England so maybe the popularity hasn't peaked here yet.

  1. Isobel - gorgeous name, but perhaps over popular at the moment.
  1. Imogen - very nice name, classic, more unusual than Isobel.
  1. Matilda - gaining in popularity, but I don't really get the love. It's fine, but has a very faint frumpy vibe to me, not that keen on the nicknames Mattie or Tilly either.

Imogen my least favourite by a mile.

Isobel- positive, pretty, classic

Matilda- quirky, suddenly popular, might date very quickly but still cute

Imogen- boring, twee, bit sickly hate the sound of the "o" making the sound clunky

Imogen is my favourite, I know a little girl called Imogen & she is a lovely, very kind & compassionate, also like Isobel, but very very common, Matilda is just a bit bleugh, & I know quite a few, the adults are quite stuck up & the children are quite pretentious too.

I know the least Imogen's. Isobel means she will always be known as Isobel b or whatever your surname starts with, that's a bit annoying.

Bertrand it was the 36th top girls name last year?! Which makes it very popular and for me and the type of parents I've seen using it in London, trying very hard to be "trendy".

Matilda is the new Noah of girls names, suddenly insanely trendy, cropping up everywhere. In all honesty to me, it just sounds a bit silly and childish as a name.

Imogen is very plain and agree- prim. The few I've known have been very catty Shock

Isobel is just lovely, graceful, pretty and won't date.
