Can I have some help? I'm trying to think of names for our second and neither of us like each other's names. Can you suggest any along these lines that don't end in an 's' sound as it won't go with out surname

Here's my list (all rejected so far by DH)

Hazel
Valentina
Marsaili
Eilidh
Juno
Elspeth
Felicity
Elena
Ailsa

Oscar

If you can't agree, each choose a name you like and use both - he can use his choice and you, yours. That's only fair.

Pogolphin · 08/02/2017 19:03

Alexandra
Duncan
Adaline
Hector

Puremince · 08/02/2017 17:32

Sorry, not Douglas or Innes, because they end with an "S"

Puremince · 08/02/2017 13:43

Both his boy suggestions are Scottish and both can be surnames. You've got Finlay, Fraser, Murray and Murdo on your list, of which only Murdo isn't also a surname so I think Scottish and surnamey is the way to go for a boys name.

Duncan? Ewan? Innes? Scott? Campbell? Alexander? Douglas?

auberginefrog · 08/02/2017 13:13

Wow thanks! Haven't checked back for a few days and some of these suggestions are lovely! On maternity leave from Friday so will sit down at the weekend and make some choices....

Adeline (Addie for short--very traditional in my SIL's family in the American South)
Elinor / Eleanor / Eleanora
Beth
Isabel
Isla (popular, I know)
Helena
Nadia

Boys:
Ewan or Ewen
Owen
Kane (my brother's middle name as it's a family name) or Cain (obvi Biblical)
Lochlan
Brodie (was on my list but my DH says eeewww!)

Daisydukes79 · 06/02/2017 09:51

Our two are Jessica and Gregor :)

TheLivingAsheth · 06/02/2017 09:49

Oh DH was the same, rejected all my many names, which were perfectly normal ones like Sam - (which he memorably claimed made us sound middle class pretending to be working class ??!?) but failed to come up with anything himself apart from Shona if it was a girl (it wasn't). We did get there in the end.

llangennith · 06/02/2017 09:45

Cordelia (Cordie)

Benjamin (Benjy)

strawberrypenguin · 06/02/2017 09:43

Eloise

Fruitcocktail6 · 06/02/2017 09:39

Adelaide is my name so your DP is clearly mad.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 06/02/2017 09:37

Vetoed all of them, what a meanie!
Fwiw I like Cameron.
Okay, girls:
Anna
Fiona
Ishbel
Louise
Molly
Zoë

Boys:
Adam
David
Kirk
Rory

Aquamarine1029 · 05/02/2017 13:59

Maybe Camden for a boy, Cameron is awful. Dougal is HIDEOUS. What about Aubrey or Madeleine for a girl?

Mrsknackered · 05/02/2017 13:16

Sorry just remembered you said not ending in S!

Mrsknackered · 05/02/2017 13:12

Not surprised he vetoed Peregrine! Perry? Grinny? Ew!
That being said I do like a lot on your lists.
I'm really taking a shot in the dark here but perhaps:
Elsbeth (rather than the harsh Peth bit)
Aishling
Ada/Aida
Violet
Clementine/Clementina
Raya
Iris
Margot

And the boys:

Amos
Rudy
Jasper
Caspar
Franklin
Roman
Barnaby
Cassius
Kit

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/02/2017 12:50

Adeline
Anna
Marcia
Marisa
Eden
Julia
Josephine
Scarlett
Abigail
Alison

Nathan
Calum
Henry
Simon
Louis
Matthew
Adam
Michael

auberginefrog · 05/02/2017 12:47

I know they're kind of similar names but I just don't love dougal and have negative associations with Cameron - we both have jobs like teaching so a few names have been ruined by association.

I was hoping for the collective wisdom so suggest a name that neither of us have thought of that we both love... thanks for all suggestions so far
