I'm British and my husband is African, we have a toddler who is called Orson with an African middle name already. I'm expecting another boy in 3 weeks(ish) and we cannot agree on a baby name at all! We had the exact same problem with our toddler and in the end I basically chose his name which we both (now) love.
We've made baby name lists and literally all the names are being vetoed by each other, for example he likes "Feyi" "Iso" "Basso" but none of them make sense with the name Orson and I struggle to pronounce 😳....I've made so many suggestions, some of which I'm not even keen on in order to find a compromise but we're stuck 😬😬😬😬
This is my current list:
Wren
Drake
Ocean
Rui
Orion
Amory
Beau
Sol

Advise and name suggestions please!!! Looks like I'll be naming him on my own and my head is spinning!!!

Thanks in advance
😍

Hi

What about Holden, Landon, Nolan, Griffin or Silas?

PaintingOwls · 04/02/2017 17:50

Just pick a name you like, no need to match it with DC1. Once they are adults they will have their own lives and it won't matter Confused

paddypants13 · 04/02/2017 17:43

I really like Sol. You could give him Solomon as a long name if you like it. I haven't heard it used as a girls name and it makes me think of Sol Campbell.

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 04/02/2017 17:40

Xanthe is definitely a girls name.

Chocolatecake12 · 04/02/2017 17:37

Orson and Isaac sound fab together.
Isaac means laughter and I once lived next door to an African guy called Isaac who had the biggest smile I've ever seen!

Sapphireshadow · 04/02/2017 17:32

I agree that Wren is more of a girls name. Really Orion but think it sounds too similar to Orson. So my favourites from your list are Orson and Sol or Orson and Beau.

MelinaMercury · 04/02/2017 17:17

Didn't mean to use so many "thinks" in that post...

MelinaMercury · 04/02/2017 17:15

MommaGee, I think it is traditionally but I think it's being used for either now. Or at least I know 1 male one haha

I personally think it's fine for either :)

JonSnowsWhore · 04/02/2017 17:04

If he doesn't like amory have you suggested omari? I know someone with a son of that name, & it's kind of similar so just throwing it in there Smile

Chatelherault · 04/02/2017 17:04

Theo
Isaac
Elijah

MommaGee · 04/02/2017 17:03

Isn't Xanthe a girls name? It was on my girls list

Adore Elijah and Ezekiel

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 04/02/2017 16:54

I also like Sol (Solomon).
But my favourite is, Orson and Basso, sounds cool ! 😀

MelinaMercury · 04/02/2017 16:50

From your list I like Sol best.

How about Brice, Eli(jah) or Xanthe (Zan-thee/thay depending on preference)?

I think they all match up with Orsen without being same-y.

averythinline · 04/02/2017 16:49

Theo (Theodore) would sound good with Orson could use Ted/Teddy as different nn..
Isaac also sounds good and from your original list Amory is my definite favourite

MommaGee · 04/02/2017 16:48

I like Sol, really no to Drake (cos i hate rap)

Can you each pick 5 names you like and score your own and then each others 1-5 and see what gets the highest vote?

Or let Orson pick

MagicChicken · 04/02/2017 16:44

Names for boys that are used in Cameroon but also work in English and go well with Orson are

Ariel Felix Merlin Miguel Benoit Olivier Hugo

DirtyBlonde · 04/02/2017 16:40

??

Do you have more than one DC? Do you never do things with them both?

I'm not suggesting names need to match, btw. Just not clash.

And if OP''s perception is that a particular name doesn't sound right with that of her DS1, then of course that's one off the list,

mayah1 · 04/02/2017 16:40

I like Issa/Essa but he says it's too popular in his community...😦

minifingerz · 04/02/2017 16:38

I like the name Iso and also Issa.

WheelchairDay · 04/02/2017 16:35

Yelling the names across a park? Signing cards? I've heard it all now.

itssquidstella · 04/02/2017 16:31

Avery?
Dashiell (Dash)?
I really like Sol, as suggested upthread.

DirtyBlonde · 04/02/2017 16:28

Nothing to do with being a package, surely? Everything to do with yelling the pair of names across the park, writing them together in cards etc

WheelchairDay · 04/02/2017 16:20

Why does it have to sound nice with Orson? It's not like they're a package.Hmm

mayah1 · 04/02/2017 16:14

Thanks for the feedback, my hubby is from the English speaking part of Cameroon, he also speaks Spanish. Many people from his community have English names (including his parents and siblings) and he has told me names like Theodore, Remy, Shey etc are very common and he has discounted these even though I would be happy for something like these.

I just want whatever name we use to sound nice with Orson.
🤔🤔🤔🤔

Your names are quite 'out there'.

Are you not more likely to agree on a more 'universal' name?
