What could Jed me short for?

I overheard the name Jed for a boy recently and really quite like it. I know it's a stand alone name but it seems a bit nick-namey to me and I prefer longer names. Can anyone think of a name it could be short for? or a nickname for?

thanks!

Jediah?

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 02/02/2017 22:48

"My name is Josiah Bartlet, and I am President of the United States."

Oh, were that currently the case... Sad
Please get Aaron Sorkin to remedy the situation ASAP

(Sorry, OP! Jared's nice).

John Edward shortened to Jed is great

I know a young Jed, short for Jedediah

TSSDNCOP · 02/02/2017 20:45

My name is Josiah Bartlet, and I am President of the United States.

Jeremy.

WaitrosePigeon · 01/02/2017 21:02

Definitely Jedward

isittheholidaysyet · 01/02/2017 21:02

Was going to say Jeremy.

But having read this, I prefer Ged for Gerard.

Roseandbee · 01/02/2017 20:57

I know a Jethro called Jed

leccybill · 01/02/2017 10:30

Ged/Jed/Gerard are very popular names in Liverpool.

I was going to say Jedward too!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/02/2017 10:27

Jared.

llangennith · 01/02/2017 10:23

Jed can be short for Jethro.

dinkystinky · 01/02/2017 09:52

John-Edward

Sophronia · 01/02/2017 09:43

Gerard
Jared
Jedidiah

NataliaOsipova · 01/02/2017 09:42

It is (was) pretty common name in Liverpool and around, I think. I know a couple of men called Ged and it's short for Gerard.

As a pp said, though, in the West Wing, President Bartlet was Jed - short for Josiah.

Pipilangstrumpf · 01/02/2017 09:39

I'd think Gerald

Eggsbutnobacon · 01/02/2017 07:19

I know a Jed, short for Jeremy.

JC23 · 01/02/2017 07:02

I would think Jeremy.
Jared is nice.

GrumpySausage · 01/02/2017 06:58

I love Jed. I always think it is short for Jedidiah.

pinkhorse · 01/02/2017 06:55

It just makes me think of Jedward!! 😂

EccentricPickle · 01/02/2017 06:37

Grin Jedward! Some people have been watching too much Celebrity Big Brother! 😂

I like Jeremy or Jared.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/02/2017 06:36

I think Ged might get different pronounciations. I'd stay with the Jed spelling. I only know one when he was a little boy, he must be almost 30 now. He was just Jed not short for anything.
