If I met your child, already named Piper, I wd not comment. But seeing as you are here on MN asking for views, I'm happy to offer mine. IMO calling a child Piper is kind of condemning them to a certain kind of lifestyle - great name if you want to be an actor, musician, artist or sports person. But what if the child grows up and wants to be a barrister, a politician, a doctor or other profession? Piper is not a serious name. It's a name a teacher would spot on the class register before the beginning of term, and before even meeting little Piper, the poor child will have been imagined to be not that bright, maybe a bit of a trouble maker and probably from a dysfunctional home. All the Piper lovers out there, pls don't shout me down! I'm offering an opinion. Some countries give parents to be mandatory acceptable lists of names precisely because it's recognized that giving a child a classic name is sensible, kind and helps to avoid the social division created when middle class children are called David, Thomas, Emily, Victoria and working class children are named Davron, Kai, Makayla and Piper.
