I have told my family that I'm going to choose a boring name so, whilst yes it is, I don't see that as a bad thing Grin

I don't think there'll be more than one Matthew in his class whereas there will be loads of kids with the trendy/'unique' name! Sounds dependable, classic, I like the shortenings.

Strong classic name.
I have a Matthew.
He has three friends who are also called Matthew. Tall Matt, short Matt , Matt j etc so not out of date.

I've got a wild child called Matthew.
We shorten it to Math because he announced aged 3 he hated his teacher calling him Matt.
My shortlist was Matthew or Thomas. Thomas was too popular at the time.

No!!! I am biased as I have a Matthew :-)

He's only 3 but he's already got such a gorgeous, cheeky personality. Definitely not boring at all!

No! My eldest is Matthew (or Matt). Know of several Matthews round here though it's not so popular that you get lots of Matthews in the same class.

It's a classic, not boring. And let's face it "interesting" is rarely a compliment when said about names! I can think of 4 Matthews I know under 10, so not dated around here either.

Let's face it with a name like Matthew no-one is ever going to exclaim "ooh what an interesting name!" But equally no-one is going to do this > Confused

It'd be on my shortlist if I didn't have close family with the same name, but it is exactly the kind of name I like. I thought I would be all for something quirky but when it comes down to it I think you can't go wrong with a strong classic.

I have known three Mathews and all have been lovely, kind, intelligent grounded people. Not wild soles but not boring either.

I really like it. If we are lucky enough to have another baby it would definitely be on my short list of contenders.

Well it is a bit beige.... But then I don't mind dull forenames. I think the world is split into people who like unique individual names and those who like safe names ( which allow the child to develop their own personality rather than living up to being "tiger" or "chastity" or "rainbow-moonbeam"). Guess which camp I fall into!

I think it is timeless and classic and he is also likely to be the only one in his class as not terribly popular at the moment.

I love Matthew but then I take people seeing my kids names as boring as a compliment. Have known a cool Matty and several lovely Matts. The only acceptable 'Matt' alternative for me would be Matthias, and only then if I were German.
