Yes boring.

Complainingagain · 20/05/2019 00:51

Yes

Tillygetsit · 19/05/2019 22:35

I dont think it's boring. Its classic.

midsomermurderess · 19/05/2019 19:41

No. It's a timeless classic.

outvoid · 19/05/2019 18:48

Not a fan but it is a classic I guess, like John or Joseph. I wouldn’t use either of those either

99bb · 19/05/2019 08:23

It’s just a classic. It’s always a trade off - exciting names aren’t timeless classics. I wouldn’t worry - if you like it, go for it.

I really like Matthew. Personally less keen on Matt as a nn, but it would definitely happen.

NorthernRunner · 19/05/2019 08:05

I don’t like the name matthew at all, however I have two friends who are Matts and they aren’t boring, they are dearly cherished friends.
I hold Matthew in the same regard as Jonathon. Totally inoffensive but not the kind of name that grabs me

Sophronia · 18/05/2019 23:08

Matthew isn’t dated. Yes, it was very popular in the 90s, but it’s still in the top 70 names and is used more frequently than names like Jackson, Louis, Elliot and Finn.

CupOhTea · 18/05/2019 14:16

I love Matthew too and you really don't hear it that much anymore. That said, we did decide against it, as it was boring to us, having grown up with many Matthews. Matt Our Surname, just sounded like Matt from IT or something, and didn't seem right on a baby somehow.

We went with a 'proper', traditional, classic name, but an Irish one, so it isn't common in England.

BBQwhoareyou · 18/05/2019 14:09

I love the name Matthew

Saharasunset · 18/05/2019 13:33

Beyond boring

How about Matteo or Matthias?

MikeUniformMike · 18/05/2019 12:28

It's classic, not boring. Matteo is likely to date and is a bit naff if you are not Italian.

Bigfanofcheese · 18/05/2019 10:53

I like 'Matt', it's a solid, classic blokey name. And wasn't he a tax collector in the bible? Could be an omen for a successful career in finance!

sparklysunflower · 18/05/2019 10:43

It's actually the eew sound at the end that I dislike.

sparklysunflower · 18/05/2019 10:41

I am a Matt and I hate the name. It's equivalent to the taste of pasta when you forget to add salt - it's food but it has no flavour

Really? I'm not keen on Matt either but that's pretty extreme!

Proseccofuelled · 18/05/2019 10:35

I have no idea why people think biblical names are immune from the impact of fashion / trends - Deborah isn’t dated? Simon? Matthew is an 80s / 90s name so it won’t sound dated until those men are middle aged.

I wouldn’t rule it out over that though it’s a perfectly nice name

Proseccofuelled · 18/05/2019 10:29

It is a VERY dated name - 80s / 90s so will be a middle aged name when they’re still at school

Is Matthew boring??
Matt55 · 18/05/2019 10:21

I am a Matt and I hate the name. It's equivalent to the taste of pasta when you forget to add salt - it's food but it has no flavour. I am currently working with lawyers from the NSPCC to make naming your child 'Matthew' reclassified as child abuse. Does anybody have any suggestions for something a little less boring?

colouringinagain · 22/01/2017 23:22

No!!!! Matthew is gorgeous!

ifcatscouldtalk · 22/01/2017 23:20

If you love it, go for it. Despite not being religious I always felt drawn to the biblical names. For me there is something solid and timeless that I really like. Fwiw I have seen my daughter's names described as boring and meh but it doesn't matter, you'll never get a 100% thumbs up on any name.

Joeybee · 22/01/2017 23:03

Or Matteo maybe.

Joeybee · 22/01/2017 23:02

It is a little dated maybe - but it's a nice name, so if you like it you should go for it. Maybe if you were worried it is a bit boring, you could go with Mathias' instead?

Aimnmatt · 22/01/2017 18:34

I have a Matthew so I'm obviously going to say I love it.
He's 9 but I chose his name when I was little (5) and stuck with it, so could be seen as a little dated. I feel it's a strong name that is cute for a baby, cool for a teenager and smart for a man.

mumhum · 22/01/2017 16:00

Not boring

RonaldMcDonald · 22/01/2017 15:28

no, it's lovely
