How common is Rose these days?

I don't currently have children and theres not that many people I know that do. Ive been set on the name for years and years and my DH is very keen on it to, obviously if we have a boy then i will think of a different name... I've never actually known a rose but it seems quite popular in the name charts so maybe there is lots of little people called Rose?

I love Rose. I only know one in her 20's.
When we used to play mummy and daddy's when we were little EVERY girl used to argue over their play name being Rose.
If I had a daughter it would be a serious contender. Saying that, hate it as a middle name.
Same with Mae, love it as a first hate it as a mn.

Thanks for all the feedback! Very encouraging, I don't mind it being over used as a middle name. I would probably use Rosie from time to time but would christen Rose, although there are so many other names I love but I almost think I'm best just sticking to this one I've always liked & dh likes as otherwise I'd never make up my mind.

I know 3, all varying between ages 4 and 11. Lovely name and not over-used at all.

Clearly my area is behind the times. Grin I knew 3 baby girls who were born before my DD with the middle name Louise. I seriously considered changing DD's decided middle name so they wouldn't think I was copying. I think it's lovely and it fits my DD so well.

I know one Rosie who's 7. She's Rosie, not Rose or any other variations.

But every second person I know has Rose for a middle name.

The other Roses I know are much older.

My 3yo DD is Rosabel, or Rosie. She introduces herself by her full name.

I only know one Rose.

When I was pregnant, I absolutely loved Rosalind / Rosamund but both sound appalling with my surname.

I prefer Rosa and it's much less common. I find Rose is much more popular as a middle name and Rosie is v popular as a first name. I haven't met anyone yet called Rosa

Tedious as a first name. Quite uncommon as a first name. Well amongst children.

Dd is a Rosie, in her year at school there was a Rose and a Rosy besides, she is early twenties now. I know a three year old Rosie and a Rose not quite a year old besides.

I know one (age 2) as a first name. A few as a middle name.

I agree it's not that common as a first name, but about half of all girls born in the last 5-10 years have Rose as a middle name.

Rose doesn't seem that common by itself (except as a middle name as pp have said). A bit more popular if you include variations like Rosie etc.
But don't take our word for it - google how many were born last year.
If you want to be even more unusual you could opt for Rosemary or Rosanna.

There are an awful lot of Rosies at school as Rose is more of a second name I've found. It's my daughters second name, my son chose it as he loved Rose from Dr Who at the time and it fitted well with Tabitha her first name. It's a lovely name on its own though

Thanks well thats not too bad then, i'm not desperate to go out of my way to be super original. I did think i could give an ending to it if it super popular to try and distinguish it a bit. Which would probably be Rosemarie, if not Marie would probably end up the middle name

I know three, aged about 9, 11 and 13

(I generally only know 7-14 year olds through Guiding)

It's not nearly as popular as Isabel/Isabella
