Girls names suggestions

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 12/01/2017 16:52

Only 12 weeks so no idea what we are having.
We a 1 year old ds who was not named for ages because dh and I could not agree on a name. If we have another ds he will probably just get called "boy" as we have used the 2 names (popular classic) we both thought were ok on ds!

Oh hates my girls list so far:

Louisa (Lulu). Maybe Ruby as a new
Cecelia ( cece) maybe joy as a nn
Sylvia (Sylvie)
Scarlett (Letty)
Felicity (Flick)
Margot (Mags or Go) Hannah as a nn

The only names oh likes for girls are
Hannah
Marley

Any suggestions? As you can see I like full names with nicknames

No offence to your DP but he doesn't know much, does he? Louisa, Cecilia and Sylvia are lovely names that have been around for 100s of years. Louisa May Alcott wrote 'Little Women' (I predict he's not heard of that though), there was a Sylvia in Shakespeare I think, and there was a Saint Cecilia.

All a lot more 'proper' than Marley! Hannah is nice, but a bit dull.
You definitely have better taste than him. Get him to educate himself.

My apologies OP!!

That makes a lot more sense Grin

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 13/01/2017 17:35

I didn't know I could edit posts on mumsnet. Oops Blush

Would have spared me some embarrassment.

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 13/01/2017 17:29

Except dont know how to edit :)

OP posts:
Marlboroandmalbec34 · 13/01/2017 17:22

Sorry I will edit first post as I meant Hannah, Joy, Ruby as potential middle names not nicknames!

Margot (Mags or Go) Hannah as a nn
Louisa (Lulu). Maybe Ruby as a new
Cecelia ( cece) maybe joy as a nn

Since when do people chose a name, a shortened version AND a nickname??? Sorry this is a complete pet hate of mine!!!

And what does Hannah have to do with Margot?? (same with Louisa and Ruby and Cecelia and Joy). I cannot see any logic of using the given name and then a completely different name as a nickname? If you like Hannah then use Hannah!!

Pick a name. Shortenings and nicknames will evolve over time!

I really wanted to call DD Evangeline, but DH said it sounded like an industrial cleaning product :-/

How about Tabitha?

ClaryIsTheBest · 13/01/2017 07:07

that's... well, personal taste, I guess. So, just out of interesting, does he like genuinely made up names? ;)

For me personally Marlene is Marlene Dietrich, a more flattering association with the name, I guess. ;)

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 13/01/2017 05:17

I know! It makes no sense! I have told him to google Louisa as he acts like I have made it up
I am not keen on Marlene (only fools and horses)

OP posts:
ClaryIsTheBest · 12/01/2017 21:06

Louisa is a very 'proper' name! I personally don't like Cecilia (the meaning put me off, tbh) but still...

Louisa isn't proper but he likes Marleyy, ok... Confused

What about Marlene? A 'proper' name (imo) and if he likes Marley...?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 12/01/2017 20:54

How about Hannah, but you insist on calling her Hattie or Hettie?!

n0ne · 12/01/2017 20:49

Proper?! And he suggested Marley?!?Hmm

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 12/01/2017 20:44

Hannah as a middle name for Margot baby spider :)

Love all the these suggestions. I really want Louisa or Cecilia but he is adamant they are not "proper" x
