Claire?

I don't like it as in Claire that rhymes with hair but I know a French family with a Claire and they say it more like clay-ah, which I think is lovely.
Perhaps a bit poncy if you're not French though?!

I'm a Claire, and rather like it now - and I don't remember feeling strongly either way about it as a child. I must have been at the beginning of the 'Claire trend' as I'm in my late 40s; I knew lots as a teenager but it didn't bother me.
I think it's classic and elegant, works well for all ages, isn't shorten-able, and is due for a comeback! I do have to spell it reasonably often, but I wouldn't say it bothers me.

Claire is the French form as someone mentioned. Very commonplace back in the day, along with the double named versions!

Good choice. Clare would be my preferred spelling but Claire fine also. Clara is the fashionable choice at the moment of course. Top 100 I should think.

I love Claire and considered it for DD. If I ever go again it will be on the shortlist. I wouldn't go for the Clare spelling as it is a county in Ireland. I think it's one of those names that suits a little girl very well but also translates into a good solid adult name.

But DD is Clarissa nn Clary, so, I'm probably biased.

I ❤️ the name Claire!!!! It is so classy and so much of a certain time I think it is due a comeback!! If I ever am blessed enough to have another little girl, I am going to name her Aoife Claire.

I'm a Clare (spelt without the I!) and I agree that she will be forever correcting people on the spelling but if you go for the French version (Claire) then that is the more common way so less chance of error.

I have Suzanne as a middle name but also have a cousin who is Claire Louise

Dd is Claire Marianne, she was born on 11th August (her due day) which is St. Claire's day. Am a teacher, wanted something different and haven't taught any Claires in 10 years.

My name is Clare and I'm not keen TBH. I feel it's quite dated now and is up there with Gemma and Sarah as a very 80s name. I also always, always have to spell my name to people. If I had £1 for every time I've had to say 'Clare without an i' I would have considerably more dosh in the bank than I do now! It's a small but persistent PITA.

As a previous poster pointed out, it also sounds dreadful in some accents. An ex colleague used to pronounce my name 'Cluuur'. Yuk.

I'm a Clare and I like my name, middle name is Marie which I used to hate telling people because of Marie Clare magazine but now I don't care. DH wanted to name dd3 Clare after me but she came out looking completely different

I don't like it personally, it's just not the sort of name I would choose for my dc.

Claire was on the list for DC1! Wonderful choice IMO, it's graceful, poised, and interesting because it's unusual to hear it these days.

Claire is much nicer than Clara and Clarissa. Through I am a little biased as it's my name.

When growing up the only issue I had with my name was there being no way to shorten it. Being one of 4 in a class didn't really fuss me much and that wouldn't be an issue these days anyway.

Fwiw Claire is the way most people spell it so incorrect spellings are less likely. I don't like the Clair spelling but don't mind Clare. I do think those two will have more issues re spelling however.

I don't mind my name. I can see it having a come back in the future. I think it's used much more in the US in present times than the UK.

I don't mind the name, but it's also my husbands exes name, and she's an awful woman (no I'm not just saying it cause she's his ex, as his other ex is a lovely woman, so I'm not just bitter).

Its lovely if you have an uplifting type of accent, but where I'm from its definitely Clurrrrrr.
