Emmeline? Is it emma-line or emma-leen? I love the name emma but prefer a longer name. TIA

Emma leen.
Nice name.

TheMortificadosDragon · 05/01/2017 23:52

emmeh-lynn

GinIsIn · 05/01/2017 09:21

Emma-lynn but I used to live in Texas and so that's probably the southern influence coming through!

Raines100 · 05/01/2017 09:19

Wow, I didn't realise there was any ambiguity over this. I thought it was Emma-lynn, and that was that.

Think that's how my GCSE history teacher pronounced Emmeline Pankhurst, so I have never questioned it. I also remember she used to pronounce Stalin 'Star-lin', and then one day we had a supply teacher who said 'Stall-in'. Mind. Blown. Grin

Frazzled2207 · 05/01/2017 07:53

To rhyme with green.
Lovely name, know one with nn Emmy

bythewindsailors · 05/01/2017 06:53

I would say Emmeh-leen

mathanxiety · 05/01/2017 06:48

-leen.

Nirvanababy · 05/01/2017 00:34

My niece is an Emmaline , pronounced Emmaleen
Shortend to emmy

Sophronia · 05/01/2017 00:31

Emmeh-leen

Isadora2007 · 05/01/2017 00:10

Emmeh Leen is how I'd pronounce it.

Pluto30 · 04/01/2017 23:27

Emma-LINE.

Line to rhyme with wine.

Just like I'd pronounce Adeline Add-Eh-LINE, not Addaleen.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/01/2017 23:10

Emma-leen

lazydog · 04/01/2017 23:10

Maybe emma-line is the american/Canadian way to pronounce it?

Well, I only know one Emmaline - she's a Canadian - and she pronounces it Emmaleen Smile

TaggySits · 04/01/2017 23:08

I have a friend called this, she pronounces it Emma-line.

instagramhorror · 04/01/2017 23:08

Pankhurst! Great name and what a role model too!

Crispbutty · 04/01/2017 23:08

And hot chocolate sang about "emmalene"

LineyReborn · 04/01/2017 23:07

Rhymes with movie screen.

OrlandaFuriosa · 04/01/2017 23:07

Originally French so leen,

Emily
Emilia
Emiliana

Crispbutty · 04/01/2017 23:06

Francine
Caroline

Same type of spelling... Different pronunciation

MollyHuaCha · 04/01/2017 23:06

The line part rhymes with green. Does not rhyme with pine.

MitzyLeFrouf · 04/01/2017 23:05

Emmeline

😄

twinjocks · 04/01/2017 23:05

I say it more like Emmeh-leen - the A doesn't come out as strongly as on the end of the name Emma.

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 04/01/2017 23:05

I pronounce it more like Emma-Lynn, but only because I know one who pronounces it like that and goes by the nn Lynn

CocoLoco87 · 04/01/2017 23:04

I'd say it how it's spelt, Emma-line
