I've never posted on mn before but am due with baby number three next month and my husband and I are still undecided on names. With dd1 and dd2 we had them chosen almost from the beginning but this time we keep changing our minds! So I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks. In no particular order here is our shortlist for both boy and girl...

Boy:
Raphael
Harrison
Ioan
Wilf
Rusty

Girl:
Callista
Vivia
Eden
Mirabel
Pearl
Ophelia

Wybert sounds like a nice pronounciation. Ooh hope we've helped you find your perfect boy name, horatio! Good point about nn rusty for Raphael. Actually come to think of it I've never looked into the origins of the name rusty.

That thread has made me laugh so much. Npeter with a silent N, 😂😂😂. Thanks Raines!

Thanks for the info Dolwar. Does it rhyme with Joanne?

Dolwar · 05/01/2017 08:29

No it should be yo-an if you're saying it the correct Welsh way

Hellofromtheotherside16 · 05/01/2017 07:36

Your boys' names are nice apart from Rusty (makes me think of the dog in the children's books set on a farm Confused.

I only like Eden on your girls' list.

marmitecrumpets · 05/01/2017 07:22

Eden and Raphael

1horatio · 05/01/2017 06:56

No idea who came up with the brilliant idea to reuse Wigbert.. but according to DH the name isn't just 'surprisingly charming' but 'brilliant'... so, we'll see.;)
Il have to check out this link, raines.

renovatin

That is a great suggestion, thanks. Octavia is a really pretty name.

I actually kind of like Wigbert. Wigbert nn Bertie? It's surprisingly charming imo. I think it comes from Wybert (according to behindthename... but they spell it Wigberht...?)

Btw, Rusty could be a nickname for Raphael, right?

Raines100 · 05/01/2017 06:23

I'm telling you, Wigbert is going to be the new black! Grin

CakeRattleandRoll · 04/01/2017 23:22

Raphael is my favourite of your boy's list.
And I really like Callista for a girl. (Or Viviana)

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 22:04

😂

MitzyLeFrouf · 04/01/2017 21:52

Wigbert

😂😂😂

Makes Rusty suddenly seem appealing!

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 21:49

Gosh, no ive never heard of Wigbert before. It sounds very posh!

OP posts:
Raines100 · 04/01/2017 21:30

Mirabel is nice. I also misread Vivia as vulva at first glance Blush . Agree Viviana is much nicer, beautiful in fact, and Vivi is such a cute nn.

For a boy, I like Raphael or Harrison.

Have you considered Wigbert?

Nonameyet1 · 04/01/2017 21:06

Love Wilf and Raphael.

Love Eden and Ophelia.

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:56

1horatio you might also like Octavia, it's one I really like. With our similar taste I thought I'd suggest it to you too!

Oh thanks for pointing that out about Callista, baker. Always good to get told the possible associations. I totally agree, in a Welsh accent Ioan is so soft sounding but at the same time a solid name.

OP posts:
thebakerwithboobs · 04/01/2017 20:41

I don't know why but Callista always reminds me of an STD Blush

1horatio · 04/01/2017 20:41

I would have never thought that Vivia looks like Vulva. And I love the meaning of Vivia. But I have name Viviana on my list, which probably makes me biased.;)
I also know 2 women called Raphaela (actually, one is Raffaela), and it's fabulous imo.
One of my favourite names is Olympia (I'm probably going to suggest it to everybody because I just like it this much. Which is admittedly slightly silly...😉)

thebakerwithboobs · 04/01/2017 20:40

That's what I thought-I LOVE it. It's particularly lovely in a Welsh accent but that's the one that gets my vote Smile

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:38

That's right thebakerwithboobs. Although a bit more like Yo-uhn when I really think through the phonics of it.

OP posts:
Glitterous · 04/01/2017 20:34

Vivia sounds like a toddler mispronouncing Olivia (sorry, to any Vivia's out there!)

You could have Russell and call him Rusty.....

I like Raphael but that's it I'm afraid.

thebakerwithboobs · 04/01/2017 20:34

Do you pronounce Ioan Yo-an?

Sophronia · 04/01/2017 20:30

I love Raphael. I like Callista, Pearl, Mirabelle and Vivia from your girls list, although I prefer Viviana.

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:23

Russian Coffee I think I know what you might be referring to. As in boys asking for 'a feel of your' (insert body part)? Is that right? Ugh. I was hoping that would be something not many would pick up on. Hmmm. Rethink time.

RussianCoffee · 04/01/2017 20:06

Re Ophelia: I had therapy last year and the therapist was called Opelia. When I told DP he made a LOT of jokes about her name. I know he was being mean (I think he was trying to cheer me up but that's not really relevant) and I'm not trying to be mean to you, but it really is a name which will cause the mickey to be taken.

RenovatingHouseWithKids · 04/01/2017 20:02

I hear you about the Loan thing artandco. It had crossed my mind but I love Ioan Gruffudd so think that has clouded my judgement!

Oh no not a lady parts sounding name! I'm loving Vivia so much! If too many people think the same thing I might have to scrap it 😞. I couldn't do that to a child!

Russell has always made me think of rustling noises which for some reason bothers me. Thanks for the vote of confidence though sugar pie!

OP posts:
Artandco · 04/01/2017 19:41

Ioan looks too much like Loan
