Ava/Eva/Eve overused?

Ava's my name . I love it but wasn't born in peak popularity time for it.

Eve is not common at all! Evie Ava yes maybe.

Apparently, but I don't know that many. My DD is Eva and I must admit to have been put off the name because everyone told me it was so popular and she would be one of so many Evas, Avas and Evies in her class, but in the end it was the name my DH and I loved and agreed on.

Anyway, fast forward almost 5 years and my daughter is now in reception at a 4-form entry infant school. She is the only Eva in her year. There are no Evies and no Avas. I know one other Eva who is 8 and one baby Ava.

There are many other names that are far more popular in my area. Lots of Islas, Daisys, Violets, Florences, Isabellas...these names all outnumber the Evas, Avas and Evies I know combined! If you love the name, go for it. I did and no regrets :-)

If popularity of a name bothers you don't choose any Eve related names. Fine if it doesn't bother you perfectly nice name but be aware.

I have never met an Ava but Eva/Evie/Eve has been done to death, IMO.

dd (8) had a party a few years ago where amongst 8 guests there was an Eve, Evie x 2 , Eva, Evelyn, Ava, Edie.

We're in the NW.

Very common but I can't see that it matters if you like them: lots of Evies in DD's old school; several Ellies who are younger. They're (to me) the female equivalents of Harry, Jack and Oliver. Maybe with Sophia and Olivia.

It's massively over used where I live and trends to be those from the lower socio-economic demographics. Particularly when hyphenated with May/Mae/Mai

I know a couple of Ava's and no Eve's or Evie's or Eva's they're beautiful names.

For boys round here is ben. Don't think anyone is "worried" just if you naming a first baby you have little idea of what everyone else is choosing. I nearly named dd Olivia before realising that's what everyone else was choosing that year. Swerved that one - first baby class I attended there were 4.

I have super dull popular name and didn't want that for my dc. Personal choice though don't care what anyone else does.

Good point about boys' names. I know far more Williams and Jameses across the ages than I do Evies.

No one seems bothered about 400 million boys called William.

This generations Sarah. Most of the girls in dds class are called these names. Terribly confusing!

In DD's Y3 class there are two Evie's, an Eva and an Ava. And DS Y5 has just told me he has an Evie in his class.

I've got a four year old Evie and I love her name :) but then I like the sound of all of the names Ava, Evie, Eva, Isla etc. I work in schools and nurseries across the country and it is a popular name (but not ridiculously so). There are lots of other names that crop up regularly too (and it depends where you live). I would just call your daughter what you want to :)

I'm a Sarah from the 80's when Sarah was the number one name for a few years.

I knew one Sarah that I went to school with in a year of 100 children.

Twice in my adult life I've worked in the same team as another Sarah....about two years in total out of 13 years.

Honestly a top three name may be popular but it's not the case that you end up with ten of the same name in one class IME.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's more important that you love the name IMO.

And yes....certain boy's names are very popular and no-one seems to be concerned about that.

Yes me included, that's how I feel about it. You don't have to agree, but don't tell me how to react please.

Don't over react oh dear. It's a thread on baby names, every one is entitled to an opinion. They're not passing judgement on your child.

I expect there are people that find my children's names dull and boring. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Everyone always insists Eve is overused but it's not even in the top 100 (Evie is) and hasn't been for decades.

My DDs middle name is Ava and I don't any in real life and I work in a child where many children attend and not one Ava.
I find the suggestion by some that one of her names is 'boring' and 'dull' fucking rude and insulting to be frank.

Yes, Ivy also seems to be very popular. I know two under 18mo. Also know two Indies now, and another mother-to-be who is planning to name her DD Indie.

My goddaughter is 3. At her nursery there are 2 Avas, an Eva, an Evie, an Ivy, and 2 Izzys.....

The problem with those names is that they are so similar people forget or mix them up.

My dd has a similar E name and so does a friend's dd and people pause when they ask about them because they can't remember which is which.

I do the same with two friends who have popular M names.

I know quite a few, especially Evie. It's a nice name but there are several in every class.
