I knew one who was Gussie or Gusta. I don't think it's a great sounding name, though I have nothing against it. Gertrude would be in the same category, in my opinion, and at least you could shorten that to Trudie or something more palatable.

Would you like to introduce yourself to people as Augusta or Gussie, OP? Always a good test.

It's different. Lots of names are really pretty then you hear it so often that you think ugh! I used to think Chloe was nice until the umpteenth person started referring to Chlo or Claw-eh. Everyone I know who's had a baby boy in the past 12 years seem to have called it Harry or Jack, or Oliver.

There's obviously always Augustina? But that's a nun's name imo...

There's also Agostina and Agustina.

I actually kind of like Agostina.:)!

Augustine can be a girl's name. At least in German and French.

Yes Alberta is great too. Strong adult names but lots of shortening potential for kids

The Alberta I know goes by Bertie which was cute as a kid and cool as a teen (She's still a teen now). Augusta is growing on me. What could it shorten to (know it doesn't have to shorten but people will inevitably try). Augie. Gus. Gus for a girl is pretty cool actually! Sta!

I absolutely love Augusta. It is a proper name and people will know how to spell / pronounce it.

Albertina/Albertine is a lovely name. I love Alberta but really dislike the nn Berta.
I don't think somebody would use the nn Berta for somebody called Albertine.

It's the emphasis on the 'gust' that puts me off I think. I much prefer just August. I think it's usually a boy's name, but that wouldn't put me off. April/May/June/Sunday/Wednesday... August!

Having said that I much prefer Alberta. Future DD would be Adelaide.

LOVE Augusta and the other suggestions here. Now I think about it there is something clear and strong sounding about the 'A' look or sound of these names that really appeals.

I liked it wanted for dd2 but every single other person in my life including Dh hated it. Mentioned it to dd2 recently she's now 8 and hates it too.

I played Lady Bracknell once - she was Aunt Augusta and not the most likeable of characters .....

I love it.

I think it is very underused and is due a revival.

It's been a royal name for centuries so isn't 'chavvy'.
