How do you pronounce Aaron?

This is our number one fave for baby due in Feb. However me and DH pronounce it differently. I'm not bothered as I think however it's pronounced it's a nice name. However DH really dislikes the way I pronounce it. I say "air un" and he says "ar un". I think many people would also say "air un" and DH says he would find that annoying. We have discussed changing the spelling e.g. to Aren but I like the original spelling better.

How would you pronounce it? Ideas for an alternate spelling or alternative name that sounds like DHs pronunciation? We would go for a similar sounding name beginning with A :)

User you're right for the pn I prefer: Air-uhn (rather than 'on').

The Karen rhyming Aaron seems to be in use far more now.
I'd stick to the Aaron spelling and I doubt he or you would have to correct much.

Americans/Canadians are the only people I know who pronounce Aaron and Erin the same.

I pronounce Aaron with a short a, the same a sound that's at the beginning of the name Alan.

I would say Aaron rhymes with Karen.

This reminds me of Only Fools and Horses when considering baby names Uncle Albert laughs and says 'Air-on a G String'. I always wondered why he pronounced Aaron so strangely to make a joke - I didn't know there were two ways to pronounce Aaron!

Equally, I have never heard anyone pronounce it Ah-run. Its only recently that I've heard it with anything other than with Air at the start..

I don't know stealth- I'm Welsh, and can only hear air run in a Canadian accent. Sounds wrong in a British (well, welsh) accent. But then it's not a common name where I am, I've only encountered it once; unless you count the vaguely famous blond boy from the 90s .

I think people are spelling their "uhns" incorrectly Fenella I think they MEAN "un" or "run" as you say..but they're writing "on"

There are 2 correct pronunciations.

Air-run is the original biblical pronunciation.
Arr-un became popular because it was Elvis Presley ' middle name.

Arran is a Scottish name (Isle of Arran), pronounced the second way, so that would ensure your DH's preferred pronunciation, although I suspect many will automatically spell it Aaron anyway.

In real life, I have never met an Air-run and find it clumsy to say. If it were me, I'd spell it Aaron, pronounced Arran, and be happy to correct people.

I grew up with an Aaron pronounced Airon and since known a few people called Aaron that rhymes with Karen. I like both pn but slightly prefer Airon. Both are known pn but I think Karen Aaron is more used now.

Forgot to say we also discovered Arlen but I'm concerned it's too unusual (as in he will be bullied and spend his life explaining it. I have an unusual name and people struggle to pronounce it, really affected me and I was bullied for it so don't want my baby to have to go through the same)

I'm in Scotland, and it might be an accent thing but can't imagine saying it the way you pronounce it. I would say it roughly how your husband does but maybe more like "Ah-rin"

I thought it was Air On too - If you use Arran spelling it will always be pronounced the same way.

I know a grown up one who pronounces it Air-un. I guess it can be either way.
