How do you pronounce Aaron?

This is our number one fave for baby due in Feb. However me and DH pronounce it differently. I'm not bothered as I think however it's pronounced it's a nice name. However DH really dislikes the way I pronounce it. I say "air un" and he says "ar un". I think many people would also say "air un" and DH says he would find that annoying. We have discussed changing the spelling e.g. to Aren but I like the original spelling better.

How would you pronounce it? Ideas for an alternate spelling or alternative name that sounds like DHs pronunciation? We would go for a similar sounding name beginning with A :)

"Rhymes with Karen"? I've known the name Karen spelled the same way to be pronounced three different ways:
Kair-un
Carr-in
Ca-run

For Aaron I've heard Air-un an Arr-un. I prefer the first, but happily accept the second too.

Aaron = Ah-run

Aeron = Air-un

Where I grew up in Wales both Aaron and Aeron are fairly commonly used names but definitely a distinction in how the two are spelt and pronounced.

It's a Biblical name- the correct pronunciation is Air- un.

There are lots of other pronounciations but they are wrong!

I've heard it both ways and it's one of those names I don't like using as I'm never quite sure which way to say it.
I've got friends with an Arran. It's easy and in the same mold as the other island names (Lewis, Harris)

I know an Aaron who is in his 40s and it is pronounced Air-un. The rhymes with Karen is a modern thing and should be spelled with one short A

@Heatherbell1978 it's not a Scottish name its from the Old Testament!

Am also Scottish - heard it pronounced Air-un in my childhood (70s) but the Arran pronunciation is the one I hear most often now. I think using the island name Arran is a good way around the confusion.

It's a Scottish name and we definitely pronounce it Ah-run up here! And spelt Aaron. Never heard of Air-un (unless perhaps an American pronunciation. It was on my list for DS and I'd definitely correct people if they said Air-un.

Their version just reminds me of Americans and I just can't make that sound come out of my mouth in an Irish accent! I love it though as I do have an Aaron. He rhymes with Karen

I'm aware some people say Air-un though. I thought it was a Scottish pronunciation? Vague memories of Scottish primary school teacher saying something along these lines...? (I might have invented that memory Confused)

Ah-run to rhyme with Karen. I know a 27 year old Aaron and that's how he pronounces it.

All the ones I've ever had in my class have been pronounced to rhyme with Karen. How about Aiden or Kieron or Kian?

I think air-on sounds poncy, and doesn't look like the correct pronunciation.

I think it should be said Arr-on rhymes with Sharon.

I have an Aaron, and we disagreed on the pronunciation originally.
I said Air-on (from the west coast of Scotland) DH said that sounded too much like Erin, he said A-ron which is what we use.
The name didn't actually make our shortlist due to the difference in pronunciation but DH talked me round while I was out my face on painkillers after the birth.
Either way it's a great name.

My husband is Air-ron, every other one I've met is a-Ron. Air-Ron is how it is pronounced in America too

Air-on. If your DH doesn't want that pronunciation, you need to go for Arran.

I was at school with an Arran and an Aaron and they both pronounced it "aah-ron"
