How do you pronounce Aaron?

This is our number one fave for baby due in Feb. However me and DH pronounce it differently. I'm not bothered as I think however it's pronounced it's a nice name. However DH really dislikes the way I pronounce it. I say "air un" and he says "ar un". I think many people would also say "air un" and DH says he would find that annoying. We have discussed changing the spelling e.g. to Aren but I like the original spelling better.

How would you pronounce it? Ideas for an alternate spelling or alternative name that sounds like DHs pronunciation? We would go for a similar sounding name beginning with A :)

I have taught both pronunciations! So I guess either. I currently teach an Arun.

I know two of them - both older teenagers now. One is pronounced 'Air-un' and the other 'Arran'. Both of them would get annoyed if their name is pronounced the opposite way round.

I think you could have either! My friends just used this spelling and pronounced it "aarun"...like Arran!

I knew two Aarons one pronounced it Ar Un and the the other Air on. For years I thought they were two different names Blush

There were two Aarons in DS's class at school. One pronounced it Airun, the other pronounced it Arron. It was a bit confusing at first, remembering which pronunciation to use for which child!

If I wasn't told I think I'd read Aaron as Airun.

Aaron to rhyme with Karen, don't like the Air-on pronounciation at all.

Also, I know an Arlen in his twenties, doesn't seem too unusual in practice. Definitely consider it if you like it. Harder to mispronounce as well Smile

all the fellows I know pronounce it arr-on (spelled aaron)
Karen is more kar-en not kar-on

Which raises the question - how do you pronounce Karen? I've known the first syllable to sound as in cat, car and care.

I used to say air run in my music store dent days but now would default to a ron (as in Burr Sir)

The correct biblical pronounciation is most definitely Air-on - as in Aaron Copland.

However, people will consistently pronounce wrongly until corrected.

Air-on pronounciation is a million times nicer. If you want the other pronounciation spell it Arran like the island.

I was always led to believe it was Ay-ron as in the biblical name but recently it seems to have become Arr-on

It's "erin" here, for your dhs pronunciation we would spell it with one A - Aron :)

Arran is probounced like karen. Ka- ren. Just in case anyone pronounces karen like care-on. (I knownone of those Hmm)

Surely to rhyme with Karen you spell it Arron?

Then we might as well say "surely to be pronounced Air-un you'd spell it Airun?"

Either way the Aaron spelling is not particularly intuitive.

I know some one with an Aaron. Pronounced A-ron. Although quite a few people do mispronounce it as Air-ann though.
