How do you pronounce Aaron?

This is our number one fave for baby due in Feb. However me and DH pronounce it differently. I'm not bothered as I think however it's pronounced it's a nice name. However DH really dislikes the way I pronounce it. I say "air un" and he says "ar un". I think many people would also say "air un" and DH says he would find that annoying. We have discussed changing the spelling e.g. to Aren but I like the original spelling better.

How would you pronounce it? Ideas for an alternate spelling or alternative name that sounds like DHs pronunciation? We would go for a similar sounding name beginning with A :)

If you want the sound of ar un, what about Arran there is no dubiety in pronunciation
Scottish place names are forenames too e.g. Islay, Iona, Skye (girls,obv)
Kyle,Lewis, Harris, Angus, Elgin (boy)

Air-run definitely, Moses' brother in the Bible.
I think the Arran pronunciation started around the 70s.

I would say Ar-un to rhyme with Karen, I have a family member called Air-un but it is spelt Eiran potentially very outing

I know both an Aaron (air on) and an Arron (aa ron) two different names, two different spellings with two different pronunciations. So I would pronounce Aaron as 'air on' x

I would say Air-un (as far as I know, that's the Hebrew pronunciation - all of the Jewish ones I know pronounce it that way).
If your DH wants to guarantee his preferred pronunciation I would say spell it Arran, as in the island.
I like them both, but they're different names to me.

If you like the air-run pronunciation then Aaran is the Scottish/Irish? way that I know of. Otherwise Arran is like the island and easily pronounced AFAIK

My sons middle name is Aaron (Samuel Aaron Matthew ) and I say air-on but weirdly I prefer Ahrun as well .surely if you make the preferred pronounciation clear on starting nursery/ school etc it should be ok?

I would pronounce Aaron to rhyme with Karen. I have met an Aaron who wanted to be Air-an and every time I went to say his name I had to remember as to me it just wasn't natural with that spelling.

I know an Aron who emphasises the Ron part more.

I think Arlen is lovely, can't think of an obvious reason why they'd get bullied for it! Arlo is becoming popular but I think I prefer Arlen Smile

I've only ever heard Ah-run except on here.

Arlo is nice and I like Arlen too.

Yes, in the U.K. He's English as well. Definitely less common here and he's the only person I've met with that name but it's not one I thought 'oh that's strange' just fits. He's a pretty cool chap as well.

Arlo is also lovely, that would be on my list

@PaperdollCartoon interesting! Are you based in the UK? We were under the impression Arlen is more common in the US.
