Smallwood-Lockwood - can we?

My surname is Smallwood... DP's is Lockwood. We have decided on William (Billy) and would like him to have both our surnames. However, is Smallwood-Lockwood awful? Confused if so, I will push for my surname - as we are not married.

Oh so predictable that there are people telling you to use your partner's surname and/or get married and take his surname. Yawn.

I vote for one of the following options:
Smallwood-Lock
Smallwood
Wood

Just because you prefer Lockwood doesn't mean my child should have a different surname to me, I don't want that. No one in my family has ever had any issues with the surname Smallwood and obviously we would know more about issues that you would you either just know somebody or are just assuming. My partner will be moving to a different country and will hardly see his son, I am not having a different surname to him.

Mike, thanks for the demand to get married! Hmm to the person saying they know someone who got teased for Smallwood. My 3 brothers never have.

Smallwood-Lockwood is awful, sorry.

I agree with pp that I would avoid Smallwood as it does leave him open to teasing, especially with William (willy) as a first name. I know you said you're using Billy but kids will still pick up on 'willy'.

I much prefer Lockwood, give him the nicer name.

What about William Wood? I actually really like that. But I guess it depends on your stance on alliterations.

William Lockwood is very nice as well.

I really prefer Lockwood or Wood to Smallwood!

I guess you could go for Wood-Lockwood? I know people with names like that, so it doesn't seem particularly weird to me.

Just use your mane OP, both is too much.
I would have preferred to use both of our surnames for our DC but they are both over ten letters and multiple syllables and it sounded ridiculous so we didn't. We are married and used DHs surname for the DC.

I'd go with small-lockwood you then get the best of both and if you get married you and your partner could take the merged name as well then it's special to your little family.

William is great but Smallwood-Lockwood is terrible. Please don't inflict that surname on your child.

You need to decide on one of them and go with it.

What about Billy Lock Smallwood?

(Personally I'd be happy to lose the small wood as the one I know played rugby at quite a high level and was constantly teased for it. Jokes from the other lads about small willies)

I'd go middle name Locke, surname Smallwood.
Are you planning on getting married and if so will you keep your surname?
I agree that you should give ur DC your surname if unmarried (I didn't and regret it)
But once you're married would you change DCs name? Have to take it all into consideration.

But agree with PO that Smallwood-Lockwood is waaaaaay too much
