Smallwood-Lockwood - can we?

My surname is Smallwood... DP's is Lockwood. We have decided on William (Billy) and would like him to have both our surnames. However, is Smallwood-Lockwood awful? Confused if so, I will push for my surname - as we are not married.

It's a mouthful but no more of a mouthful than Katarina Johnson-Thompson's name is, and the Olympic commentators managed that.

I think it is a bit much so I'd probably go for Lockwood as a middle name so it is there officially but not for everyday or work out a way for you all to have the same surname. I know you've said none of your family have ever been teased but I too think Billy/William with Smallwood could be an issue.

It's not the worst name in the world but if you're choosing between the two names then Lockwood is nicer. You're right, he may not get teased put the possibility is there, especially with William/Billy as a first name.
You wouldn't want him growing up thinking 'why would my mum pick that name' especially when there's the option of another name.

Would you consider all changing your name to Wood or one of the ideas pp have mentioned above.

You seem really keen for him to have Smallwood though and if that's what you want then go for that.

I never asked for opinions on my surname as a surname? Hmm I asked if I could have both the names together, I don't know how you've interpreted that as "what are your opinions on my surname" Hmm

No, someone said they would be teased for the surname - by saying "I don't believe your family hasn't been teased" Hmm he would be Billy. Either way, he might be a different name when we see him, so stop worrying about his name, that's not what I asked for! It's clear you don't think he can have both surnames.

I think it's a mouthful too. But no worse than Johnson Thompson that the sports commentators have to get their lips around!

Please don't double barrel his first manes too like Billy Rae!

It's not Smallwood that's they issue, it's that his full name would be William Smallwood, aka Willy Small.

You don't believe me? Smallwood is hardly the worst surname in the world Hmm they haven't been teased, you can call me a liar if you want but I think it says a lot about you if you would tease someone over that, not everyone is as nasty as you!

He isn't keen on him just having my surname, as it's not his fault he can't be with him much.

I would go for Lockwood rather than smallwood, but I think Wood is a better option. Billy Smallwood - small willy.

If you give him Smallwood-Lockwood then he would have a different surname to you anyway. Unless you were planning on changing your name too?

If you want him to have your surname then just do that, problem solved!

Lockwood-Small
Lock-Smallwood
And Smallwood-Lockwood

I think you should go for Smallwood-Lockwood. I've been saying to myself a few times and have actually come to like it. Just asked my English DH.

He thinks all of these options would be ok.

And I don't think you wanting your child and you to have the same last name is weird!

I don't see why anyone should take their partner's name if they get married, let alone if they don't.

I double barrelled after I got married but there's no way in hell I would have ditched my name completely, and especially not if we weren't getting married.

Mike she can take her partners name without being married to him. Honestly OP that name is a mouthful! Why don't you out Billy on his birth certificate not William?
