Brooklyn or Madison?

We need a name that's related to New York. These are our favourite 2 Smile which 1 would you pick? Brooklyn or Madison?

Maddison. She'll hate you for naming her Brooklyn by the time she's living in the U.K. Sorry but the association with the Beckhams will make the name a bit chav Sad

Oooh, you should call her Nya. It has the letters NY, and in various forms including this one means new in Swedish :-)

I think it's a good idea to choose a name you like and have Brooklyn or Madison as the Middle name.

I prefer Madison. I actually don't mind it: it's very American but most people would say Maddie anyway.

Nova would be cute, I think (meaning new). But potential for the car association, especially in the UK...

Not much between the names really. Very American sounding to me! I prefer both Brooke and Maddie to the full names. What other names did you consider? How about bane beginning with Ny? Nya, Nydia, Nygella?!

If you're moving back, don't name your child Brooklyn!

Although Brooke is nicer than Maddie...

It's our decision, but she is doing something for our child that I just couldn't physically do - carry her. I'm British, DH is American. Baby will live in US for a few years, but we will move to the UK just before she would start school.

Ellis is nice, but all the Ellises I have met have all been male Smile

Wow there are some really nasty responses on this thread. It may be that the names aren't to your taste, but clearly the OP is trying to do the right thing by her daughter's birth mother and wants to give the baby a named linked to where she came from which is a commendable thing. No need to be mean. I actually like both names OP but have a slight preference for Madison. Brooke is lovely too though as a nickname.

I actually think that both are nice. I wouldn't use them for DD but if I somebody told me their daughter was B or M I'd probably think 'oh, that's cute' :)

However, I do think there are nicer NY names. What about Ellis after the Ellis Island?

Madison is nicer and more girly than Brooklyn imo, regardless of the reasons for choosing those two. I assumed you have a surrogate and would like to give the baby a name that she'd be happy with as some sort if thank you.

Forgive me for being dense, but if you're adopting this child and doing something for the birth mother, it's a nice gesture but why does she have to be so involved in the decision?

Nothing wrong with saying "we're naming her X Madison Smith" and letting that be it.

Isn't it your decision?

I'm guessing it's an 'at birth voluntary adoption' which is something that happens commonly in US, but not UK.

OP I am guessing you are American? Do be aware this site has very UK based members and the naming trends are different here.
I think Brooke or Maddie are lovely nicknames, for what's it's worth.

If this is a surrogacy why is the birth mother getting to dictate the baby's name? It's one thing if you want to name her something to honour her but another if it's being forced on you. I'm not entirely clear if it is though from your posts so I could be wrong.

It really has to be New York related - I don't think Brooke would be good enough.

I have a neice names Brooke and really like that name but really do think Brooklyn is better suited as a boys name. Would you consider Brooke as the name? If not I'd say go with Madison
