Brooklyn or Madison?

We need a name that's related to New York. These are our favourite 2 which 1 would you pick? Brooklyn or Madison?

Could you go with Brooke as first name, Lynn as middle name? Madison is better than Brooklyn, if it is one of those two.

Madison is nice, is more classic and will not date in the same way Brooklyn will, I think. It's a lovely gesture you're making.

I would go for Brooklyn. I can't believe some of the suggestions here. Op is coming with brooklyn or madison and is getting suggestions like Carol or Waverley

Ellis is much nicer than Brooklyn or madison imo. It's definitely a girls name. Brooklyn is not a girls name?!

Going for the name of the hospital she was born in could be an option?

I know a guy that's called Brigham because of that... and a girl that's called Bethesda...

No Navy, she wants the baby that she gave birth to, to have a name that represents where she was born.

Ellis is cute, and i like the link to Ellis Island - a fresh start and a new life full of hope for so many people. I think it could work for a girl.

Chelsea and Madison are also perfectly lovely IMO. I also quite like Waverley, as in the Waverley Inn. In the US you won't get such a closed minded response to unusual names.

Oh dear, some of these responses are so unhelpful!

OP has said it will be one or the other! No point in telling her neither, her mind is obviously set and I think it's a lovely nod to her birth mother.

For me it would be Madison, again because in the UK the association with Brooklyn would be the Beckhams.

As a side-note, if you like Ellis but considered it a boy's name so ruled it out, I know two females called Ellis - one is 5, the other is 27... They both suit their name to the ground and is a modern take on Ellie for me. Also if it's a middle name, I think gender neutral is a nice path to take!

Madison if it has to be one of those too. I'm not keen on Brooklyn.
I liked Astor and Bowery from that list. Or you could take inspiration from famous New York characters

Rachel phoebe or Monica from friends

Maddie is a very well known NN (I'm from England and know Maddies with the full-name Madison/Maddison).

To me personally Ellis sounds a bit like Elise. And even though it is technically a masculine name... well, soft sounding boy names are often used for girls. I've actually just put it in our list for DC2.

I think it would be a nice tribute to honour my great-grandfather that died of pneumonia in America (he wanted to bring his family over but ultimately died before that).

Anyhow, I personally think you honouring her birth mother for whatever reason sounds like a great way to appreciate where your daughter 'comes from'.
