I like the name that's pronounced eve-a-leen

How would you spell it?

I like the spelling Eveline but would personally pronounce that as Ever-line

I think it's one of those names that you just can't indicate pronounciation by spelling. My grandmother was Evelyn-pronounced with a long first E. the percussionist is Evelyn, with a short E.

Oblomov16 · 27/12/2016 08:27

Ever Lynne

Raines100 · 27/12/2016 08:12

Oops. That was supposed to be The Dubliners .

Raines100 · 27/12/2016 08:08

Eveline is ev-a-leen. She was a character in James Joyce's The Dubliners .

I've never of a variant that would give you eve-a-leen. I think that's too many ee sounds, personally.

mathanxiety · 27/12/2016 07:08

This was my granny's name and she pronounced it EV-a-leen.

(Vaseline is vass-a-leen in America).

lucieloos · 23/12/2016 23:43

Buttercup, would you say vas-eh-line or vas-eh-leen? I've never heard vaseline pronounced vas-eh-line personally. Maybe they do in America?

Evelyn

hoddtastic · 23/12/2016 23:32

evangeline?

Angelina?

Buttercupsandaisies · 23/12/2016 23:31

How does the spelling lend itself to leen? 'Line' spelling doesn't ever sound as leen does it?

hoddtastic · 23/12/2016 23:31

ever-lean, it's my aunts name.

Buttercupsandaisies · 23/12/2016 23:30

I'd say ever- lin

As in jasmine - Jas-min. Same ending

lucieloos · 23/12/2016 22:58

Another Ever-Leen

OublietteBravo · 23/12/2016 21:56

Ev-leen

MoonHare · 23/12/2016 21:54

Ever-leen

glitterandtinsel · 23/12/2016 21:48

Eev Lin
I love it.

Hushabyelullaby · 23/12/2016 21:46

I say Ever-Lynn, unless someone introduces themselves as Eva-Lynn (I have never heard either name said with 'leen' at the end)

pklme · 23/12/2016 21:44

What about Eva-Lynne?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 23/12/2016 21:43

It reminds me of Evil-Lin from He Man a bit.

Thelastusername · 23/12/2016 21:43

Ehv-leen.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 23/12/2016 21:42

Everleen

Purplebluebird · 23/12/2016 21:41

I would say Evaleene for it. Maybe Eva-Linn or Eva-Lynn would be options?

Sparrowlegs248 · 23/12/2016 21:40

Ever Lynn.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone pronounce either spelling with leen at the end though.

Ever Lynn or eve Lynn.

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2016 21:26

I'd pronounce it EV-a-leen.

Pluto30 · 23/12/2016 21:15

I'd pronounce Eveline as ev-ah-LEEN.

Evelina is ev-ah-LEEN-ah, so it makes sense.
