How do people feel about "fiction" names?

So someone I know has just named her son after a character from Lord of the Rings. It's not a name I have ever heard used elsewhere and I know she loves LOTR a lot.

I think the name is quite nice but I'm just not sure how I feel about naming a child obviously after a character from a book/film. There have been names I have liked but wouldn't use because I think people would immediately know its from a book/film and think I am a nutter.

What do you all think?

My daughters named after a well known comic book character... Recently brought out a new movie so I suspect its about to become much more common. bet you can all guess what she's called now xD

If it's a nice name what's the problem? I would imagine you would struggle to find someone who's name wasn't in at least one book/film somewhere?

Can we be nosey and know the name?

James Fenimore Cooper made up the name Cora in the Last of the Mohicans book.

My parents almost called me Arwen which I wouldn't have minded.

Wendy is a nickname for Gwen / Gwendoline and always had been.

It isn't a fictional name.

I knew someone who named her son Levin after the character in Anna Karenina- gorgeous name.

People have always been named after fictional characters, JM Barrie made up Wendy and that's just seen as a normal name now :)
