Dissuade me from wanting to use the name, Sirius.

I think it would go well with our DS's last name. Hubby is not feeling it.

Please tell me potential teasings/pet names etc. Or why it might be a good choice.
I love the name and the meaning plus I'm a massive HP fan.
Other option for me is Benjamin...
I'm finding choosing boy names difficult!

Too Harry Potter.

And too Siri.

BayaGoji · 22/12/2016 10:34

But Violet sounds exactly like Violent and it doesn't seem to have stopped it becoming popular

I would say it sounds less like violent than Sirius sounds like serious, but even so, there's no way I'd call a daughter Violet either if my surname was Savage!!

QueenLizIII · 21/12/2016 18:25

Sirius sounds like serious.

But Violet sounds exactly like Violent and it doesn't seem to have stopped it becoming popular.

HP may have run out of steam by the time your DS is at school.

If you love HP how about Diggory after Cedric Diggory.

1horatio · 21/12/2016 12:52

I personally prefer Zachariah/Zacharias. But yes, Zac Savage sounds like a very cool kid to me as well.

ChocoChou · 21/12/2016 12:37

Ooh I second Zac Savage !

Jooni · 21/12/2016 11:38

What about Zaccheus?

Zac Savage sounds like a cool kid to me.

Sunbeam18 · 20/12/2016 21:16

Sounds like Siri, the iPhone thing

CoraPirbright · 20/12/2016 19:58

Can you not use them both? Benjamin Sirius sounds good imo....

1horatio · 20/12/2016 18:53

Not Draco or Albus

Blaise, Ronald, Cedric, Hugo, Teddy, Seamus, Zacharias, Vincent, Gregory, Charlie, William (Bill), Ernie...

But I really like Remus of these suggestions. And Regulus is also kind of cute.

Still think Orion would be better, but that's personal taste ;)

Scorbus · 20/12/2016 18:31

Hmm as a fellow Potterhead I can see your thinking but not with that surname

Other HP names to consider:
Albus
Remus
Rubeus
Gilderoy (perhaps not)
Draco
Blaze
Filius
Regulus
Elphius
Kingsley
Alastor

Sophronia · 20/12/2016 18:23

Sirius Savage sounds like "serious savage" - not a good idea! Benjamin is much better.

Jooni · 20/12/2016 17:56

I personally think Sirius is a cool name, but I suspect most people will find it baffling at best, ridiculous at worst, sorry.

Plus it really, REALLY doesn't work with your surname! Not only have you got "serious savage" in there, but it's SS initials and just sounds... sinister. Like a cartoon villain or something.

Casting around here to find something else you might like:

Cassius
Atlas
Elias
Thaddeus
Caius
Maxim
Corin
Stellan
Henrik
Magnus
Darius
Emilian
Rufus

WellErrr · 20/12/2016 16:45

Caspar is a lovely unusual name, and it was one of the three wise men's names, and they followed a star??

Caspar Savage. That sounds cool!

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 20/12/2016 16:11

Sirius seems a bit unusual and sounds a bit too much like Serious for me.

How about Betelgeuse instead Grin sorry op couldn't resist!

BayaGoji · 20/12/2016 16:10

Sirius Savage?

Like, Serious Savage? Hahahah! Sounds like a wrestler's name! Brilliant!

But not actually brilliant. As in, please don't actually use it.

1horatio · 20/12/2016 16:07

I think you could use pretty much whatever you want as a middle name.

But that's just a personal opinion

876TaylorMade · 20/12/2016 15:48

Thanks!!

Will think about other star type names.

Can't use Sebastian, cousin already exist.

Ummm it does sound cringe worthy... but I'm still liking it! Blush
Oh dear God I don't want to mess up my child's life.
My last name isn't much better...
I'm just struggling to find a name I like more.
Almost every other name I've thought of comes up awful...most I think would go well belong to assholes I know.

Maybe the middle name could be Sirius?

HeartsTrump

Kind of. Just more of an i instead of the 'ee' of regal.

It's also a star's name,.. which is why I thought the OP might like it.

ArgyMargy · 20/12/2016 15:23

Surely EVERYONE will say "well, are you?" or variations on a theme. Unless you shorten it to "Siri" in which case it's a whole other thing.

BadToTheBone · 20/12/2016 15:20

I like Sirius, I've never read or seen Harry Potter so not an issue with me.

Cyrus the Virus, no!

Hermione, one if my friends who is 50, so not a new name to me.

Melstarrynight · 20/12/2016 15:05

You cannot be Sirius?!?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 20/12/2016 15:05

Sebastian Savage would sound good though.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 20/12/2016 15:03

Use Sirius and change your surname. Simple really.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 20/12/2016 14:46

I've never heard of Rigel before, I like it. How is it pronounced, like Regal?

I am afraid I agree with others about Sirius Savage OP. Sorry.

1horatio · 20/12/2016 14:41

Maisie

And I'm so glad mumsnet exists for that.

Because DH would have let me name DD Lettuce!! (Which was just a joking suggestion. But he was basically 'jolly good, let's do this'. Gah!!!!)
So, yeah. Seeing as we're thinking about trying again... I'll count on you, dear ladies and gentlemen ;)
