Alice or Maggie

Our baby is due in two weeks and my husband and I like the names Maggie Rose or Alice Rose. Which do you prefer?

Alice. Personally I can't stand Maggie. Meg is better, and so is Beth.

I don't see the name for a child to have an official short version of his/her name. I'm not that keen on my name (the full length version of Maggie, sigh) but I prefer it to all the possible shortenings, so I've always been known by the name on my birth certificate, and it's never been an issue once people grasp that I won't answer to the short versions. My daughter is the same. My husband's name is so short anyway that there are no short versions. My son decided for himself when he was very young that he wanted to be known by a short version of his name, and so he is. His name, his choice.

Grin Apologies for describing Alice as a drippy name. I'm sure your respective Alices are warrior girls/women. It's just the only Alices I've ever know have definitely veered towards being a bit, well, drippy.

I'm of an age where Maggie is pretty much automatically followed by 'Thatcher' in my head!

Alice is the best girls name ever .Disclaimer- I currently have an Alice sitting giggling on my knee! And she's fierce and in no way a drip .

I like the name Alice but with the middle name rose it makes me think of Axl Rose! Maggie is cute also and sounds better with the middle name imo, but agree kids may make fun of Maggie/maggot. What about Margot, Maggie for short?

Also, Maggie will not travel well, in German it would be known as Maggi (like the seasoning brand!)

I know quite a few of both. I prefer Alice. The siblings of the Maggies call them, "Maggot".

I prefer Maggie on its own but if you're going to use the middle name then Alice Rose sounds better.

Maggie. Love it. Alice is abit wet somehow and there are quite a few of them whereas I dont know any little Maggies.

Alice - shortens to Ali which is pretty.

Maggie shortens to Mags which imo isn't so nice.
