Brodie or Finn?

I've seen Brodie on here (quite a few times) and have fallen in love. However, why is it Brodie? Brody is more popular. Brodie seems to be used for girls, so why is Brodie preferred on here?

Brodie is a fab name (they both are!). DH and I had both Brodie and Finn on our list and Brodie would have won out if it wasn't for fact that our surname is very similar and I would have been strung up for child cruelty . We've gone with another Scots name, probably. Need to meet him to be sure. 40+1 with DS2, come on out baby!

Raven not it's not - the ie ending is the traditional Scottish spelling of a traditional Scottish name derived from the lands of Brodie up in Moray. It's usually given to males (53rd most common boys name in 2012)

In Scotland where the name originates, Brody is a rare variant spelling. Only 14 surnames spelt Brody in the last 100 years compared to 5,000 Brodies.

It's a lot more common as a forename spelling but still a lot less popular than Brodie.

It's a great name though, and much prefer it to Finn.

Ooh they were both my top 2 if this baby was a boy (she's a girl). We decided on Finn. But third option was Corey (if you like Brodie). I would definitely spell Brodie, I'm Scottish and that's the traditional spelling and the one I see here.
