Is it a nickname? Can imagine in secondary school her nickname would be Effie Nell so it wouldn't be a name I'd choose tbh.

Short for Euphemia I think (which is awful imo)
I don't mind Effie on it's own, reminds me of the girl from skins though.

Love the name Effie. I have an awful surname I was teased as a kid by other kids, funnily enough as an adult no one bats an eyelid and I survived!

You could give her a proper name. Just so she's got the choice when she's grown up... I think Effie as a nickname is lovely but there are no options really are there? If her birth certificate was Elizabeth then she could have a change of heart as a teen. Lots and lots of people do.

It may be sweet for a little girl (though I hear Effing too) but she needs to be taken seriously as an adult. I'm small and have always looked younger than my age. If my parents had given me a cutesy name on top of that I'd have changed it as soon as I could, to be honest.

At least give her a non-cute middle name so she has a choice?

I worked with a girl called Effie and she was elegant, confident and cool. I really like the name.

I think it's lovely I know a Stephanie who's been called Effie from the time she was tiny so that could be an option if you wanted a "birth cert name". I don't see what peoples obsessions are with having a "proper" name on the birth certificate are though. Maud - that's a proper name and it's ugly as anything. Effie on its own is fab ❤️

Also the thing about when she's a grown up is ridiculous between kids of different nationalities and then people giving their babies more interesting names than john and Sarah it won't be like years ago. Nobody will bat an eyelid if their doctor is called saffron or teacher is millie or whatever

I once taught an Effie - and yes I heard her get teased: Eff off, Effing hell, effie the heiffer.

But that is anecdotal and as a teacher I have come across hundreds of names - and I suppose they can all have something done to them as children are imaginative.

I don't like it, personally - the idea a name should be 'cute' or 'sweet' when it is one day going to belong to an adult woman. But, again, as a teacher, I have no doubt heard worse names.

I don't mind it but I agree with giving options. Either a different first name which you shorten to Effie or a middle name she could choose. When naming my children I think, would this suit them if they became a tree surgeon, model, judge, prime minister?

I think it sounds like a NN as opposed to a name
