I don't dislike the name....it makes me think of an elephant though and not sure why?

Yes - I saw the thread last week. Is it Scottish? The girl in the ballet La Sylphide is called Effie, so I like it as it makes me think of that.

It's a lovely nickname. What about Elizabeth nn Effie?

It reminds me a bit of people saying 'effing'. But it's really sweet.

I know an Effie but she's Stephanie and it's just a pet nickname. I don't dislike how it sounds but not sure I'd use an 'obvious' nickname as a full name.

My friend called her dog Effie. Was a whacking great big staff. Sorry that's all that comes to mind when I hear the name

I know an extremely successful woman named Effie. Certainly hasn't held her back in her adult life.

I know of an Effie short for Josephine. It's quite sweet as a NN, but I would want something more grown up as an option later.

I thought hunger games too, the mad woman with hair to match her outfits. I though it was a made up name pinched from the books.

It's sweet as a nickname, but can't imagine feeling very empowered at a job interview ( for eg) with Effie as a name.
Also can hear effing effie.

Why not give her a proper name she can use as an adult and use Effie as a nickname?

I have a long name that I've started using in my late twenties as it sounds more professional. Family still call me the nickname.

There was a thread about this name last week.
I have an Effie, short for Elspeth which is a form of Elizabeth, obviously I like it but the thread last week had a load of people saying how they hate it and reminds them of 'eff off'. So make of that what you will.

Use it if you want to! I think there will be a fair few around in another handful of years.

I don't mind it but I agree with giving options. Either a different first name which you shorten to Effie or a middle name she could choose. When naming my children I think, would this suit them if they became a tree surgeon, model, judge, prime minister?

I once taught an Effie - and yes I heard her get teased: Eff off, Effing hell, effie the heiffer.

But that is anecdotal and as a teacher I have come across hundreds of names - and I suppose they can all have something done to them as children are imaginative.

I don't like it, personally - the idea a name should be 'cute' or 'sweet' when it is one day going to belong to an adult woman. But, again, as a teacher, I have no doubt heard worse names.
