Is Kester awful?

My hormone-addled brain can't decide if I love it or hate it. We are stuck for boys names because the only one I really loved I gave to DS1, so if this baby is another boy I'm stumped. DH is a Christopher and I think Kester is a nice nod to that but I'm not sure if it's a bit 'out there'?

I prefer both Hamish and Hector. Both quite posh Scottish names.

MitzyLeFrouf · 02/12/2016 15:28

Or was he Madge's son? They had so many sprogs between them it's hard to keep up.

crayfish · 02/12/2016 15:28

What about Hamish or Hector? They are the only other two on my list. We are Scottish and live in Scotland if that makes a difference.

Hmm, not popular then!

cheweduprope - it's DH who is Christopher so it's no odder than naming a son after his father really.

I only know it as the name of one of Joey Maynard's 185 kids. Not sure what I think of it really.

lizzieoak · 02/12/2016 15:16

Makes me think of Uncle Fester.

cheweduprope · 02/12/2016 15:16

Behindthename says it's the Scottish form of Christopher... So that would be kind of odd given you already have a Christopher.

Tbh I've never heard the name before, but if I did know one, I'd enjoy making this home alone joke whenever he came over:

"Hey, I'm gonna give you to the count of ten, to get your ugly, yella, no-good kester off my property, before I pump your guts full of lead! 1, 2, 10!"

LittleMoomins · 02/12/2016 15:11

I know a Kester and he's lovely. It's a great name :)

JessicaEccles · 02/12/2016 15:10

Love it. Kester Wildeve is a fantastic hero from 'Precious Bane'.

TiggyD · 02/12/2016 15:10

Yes.

It doesn't quite fail my "Name or IKEA furniture" test, but sounds very un-name-like.

NerdsAndMonsters · 02/12/2016 15:09

Personally I don't like it, I immediately thought of jester; with the silly hat etc.

MrsBungle · 02/12/2016 15:09

I don't think it is nice.,

JosephineMaynard · 02/12/2016 15:08

I don't have strong feelings about it either way. I believe it's very unusual as a name though, if that bothers you.

olderthanyouthink · 02/12/2016 15:07

I thought you said keister (American word for bottom)... So yeah, awful

BratFarrarsPony · 02/12/2016 15:03

oh yes it rhymes with fester...
Not good.
Actually I have only ever heard it in a Fay Weldon book from the 1970s

MaeBea · 02/12/2016 15:02

I really love it. I also like Kit.

LimpidPools · 02/12/2016 15:02

Yup

Mol1628 · 02/12/2016 15:02

Yes. Awful.

DramaAlpaca · 02/12/2016 15:01

I'm not a fan. And it rhymes with fester, which isn't good.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 02/12/2016 15:00

Yes. It's awful.
