Is Kester awful?

My hormone-addled brain can't decide if I love it or hate it. We are stuck for boys names because the only one I really loved I gave to DS1, so if this baby is another boy I'm stumped. DH is a Christopher and I think Kester is a nice nod to that but I'm not sure if it's a bit 'out there'?

It's ok...
Other posh-ish sounding Scottish names:
Brody
Blair
Cameron
Angus
Hamish
Fergus
Shamus
Lachlan
Olaf
Magnus
Mirin
Machar (just thinking of cathedrals now..!)

OliviaStabler · 02/12/2016 16:37

It is awful. Sorry.

Mondegreens · 02/12/2016 16:36

The boy in Kester is called Billy - the kestrel's the one called Kes!

There's a cool famous ornithologist called Kester Bellever in the Chalet School series, who rescues a runaway schoolgirl from certain death on an island cliff. But maybe I was just relieved that there was a male Chalet School character who wasn't a doctor. Grin

Milkycocopops · 02/12/2016 16:34

The Ken loach film is about a kestrel Grin

BratFarrarsPony · 02/12/2016 16:33

oh no lol that was the hawk..Grin

BratFarrarsPony · 02/12/2016 16:31

Wasn't the boy in Kes called Kester?

TroysMammy · 02/12/2016 16:30

There was a boy in school with me with the middle name Keston. Never heard of Kester.

misson · 02/12/2016 16:29

I like Keir too. Not a fan of Kester. Sorry.

Milkycocopops · 02/12/2016 16:28

I love Kester. I know a cute little kester. There was also a Kester on Balamory a few years ago.

Sophronia · 02/12/2016 16:25

I like it

Allalonenow · 02/12/2016 15:54

I like Keir too, much better than Hector or Hamish.

Allalonenow · 02/12/2016 15:52

I love it, especially the Precious Bane link.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 02/12/2016 15:48

I normally don't like 'out there' names but actually love kester. I don't like hector at all

crayfish · 02/12/2016 15:45

I don't like Kit because where we live nobody would pronounce the 't' properly but Keir is a good suggestion.

Awful.

Hector or Hamish are lovely.

blackeagles · 02/12/2016 15:39

Kester (which my auto correct wanted to turn into Jester) - just no

Hamish & Hector are great names.

cheweduprope · 02/12/2016 15:38

I love Hector! It was in our top 3.

Theonlyoneiknow · 02/12/2016 15:36

What about Keir ?

crayfish · 02/12/2016 15:36

I'm saying 'him' - it might be a girl!

OP posts:
AttilaTheMeerkat · 02/12/2016 15:36

Not Kester, just no. It rhymes with fester as well.

crayfish · 02/12/2016 15:35

No I don't want to name him after my husband at all, it was just a coincidence really!

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/12/2016 15:35

Kit is a great name.

crayfish · 02/12/2016 15:34

DS1 has quite a posh Scottish-sounding (although it's not) name, so I think Hamish and Hector would both 'go' ok.

Kester may be off the list then. I did have a feeling that the poor kid would spend his life faced with people going 'eh?' whenever he told them his name!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 02/12/2016 15:33

Hamish and Hector are both excellent names.

If you want to name your new baby after your husband (not my thing but horses for courses n'all that) what about Christopher known as Kit?

NerdsAndMonsters · 02/12/2016 15:31

Either of the other 2 names are so much better!
