Is Kester awful?

My hormone-addled brain can't decide if I love it or hate it. We are stuck for boys names because the only one I really loved I gave to DS1, so if this baby is another boy I'm stumped. DH is a Christopher and I think Kester is a nice nod to that but I'm not sure if it's a bit 'out there'?

Keir is nice.

My computer keeps trying to change Hamish to hämisch... even when the language setting is English... weird. But I quite like the name.

I'm not a fan of Kester but it's nicer than Kit.

I also love Angus. And Algernon.

Kester is a lovely sounding name but I'm not sure I like it written? I also considered this when my DS was born, however I was set on a particular name & that's the one we chose.

If you love it, go for it!

Angus is great. Christopher abbrev. to Kit is good. Kester is nowhere near as good as Fester. Hamish is ok. Hector is a verb with not a good meaning.

I love Kester and it's DS's middle name.
I first saw the name in the Penelope lively book (The wild hunt of Hagworthy).
I cannot believe there is a serious suggestion for Olaf instead on this thread!

I know a Kesta (female). I'd never heard of Kester for a boy but I quite like it. It's different without being too "out there"

Hamish and Hector, on the other hand are both brilliant names.

If you have to use Kester, maybe a middle name? Hamish Kester sounds quite good....

Namechanged because this would totally "out" me. Only joining this thread three weeks late because it was pointed out to me.

I have a Kester - he is a fabulous teenager and we have never had anyone suggest his name was awful. We actually gave him that name because my DH's favourite film is Kes and because in a baby name book it was the only name we both ticked. I am wondering if the people that have known a Kester are people that know him - Hi!

I also have a Hamish and when we announced it we were asked why did we go for such a "normal" or "boring" name especially as we also have a daughter with an Irish gaelic name.

As for Hector - reminds me of Hector's house - no
I like Keir.
