Ezra - don't think I'm brave enough, opinions pls?

Love the name Ezra but Dh insists it sounds like a girls name and has told everyone this to which we've received many negative comments and agreement that it sounds like a girls name!

This has put me off a lot but I do keep coming back to it!

Do you think it sounds like a girls name?? (have read it is in Turkey).

Is it really that unusual, do you know any in real life? I don't really want an unusual name, it's just that I like this one!

Do you think it will increase in popularity? It's 127 in the 2015 charts, my other children's names are around 15-20.

Driving myself crazy thinking about names and mot sure it's worth trying to convince Dh is I'm not brave enough to use it!

My old dog was called Ezra, it was a bit of a joke 18years ago Ezra pound, Ezra hound, I grew to love the name and would have considered it for ds but you can't call your son after the dog ( also Pound was a fascist, which tarnishes if you are of a literary bent.)

I don't think it sounds like a girl's name at all. Luca is very popular with same 'a' ending. Also Noah. I'm surprised it's so low on the charts actually as I know a couple.

It certainly seems to be getting more popular, if threads on MN are anything to go by at least. I don't think it sounds that out there or unusual. I certainly don't think you need to be Jewish to use an OT name.

That said if your DH is set against it you probably need to keep looking.

I like it but can see that the -a ending is problematic. So I wonder if Israel might be a compromise?

Definitely a boys name.

I've met one Ezra - infant school age.

For me it's a boy's name. And only appropriate if the boy is Jewish.

I have a baby nephew called Ezra. We call him Ezzie. It's a lovely name!

I like it!

There's a main character in pretty little liars called Ezra so more people might know of it now. Never met anyone called that though!

Maybe as a middle name if you can't agree on it, I say go for it if you like it though Smile

No way would I consider it a girls name. It's an old Hebrew boys name. Personally I love it and I was very keen on it when I was pregnant. DH vetoed it though on account of Ezra Pound.

It is rising in popularity, though if that's not something to bother you I'd say it's a really lovely name.
