Brekken and?

We have a son named Brekken, so we like unusual names. Brekken is a lovely village in Norway (not where we got his name from) but it's unusual, but still pronounceable. That's what we're looking for, any ideas?

Maverick- a bit too Top Gun maybe? First thing I thought of.
Had a daughter earlier this year, picked a v.unusual name for her- and everyone who asks thinks it's lovely.
So along the Scandi theme.... Bjorn is nice, or Ragnar (thinking "Vikings") and to any MNers who haven't watched it.... Give it a go Wink

I really like Brekken. It's got a lovely sound to it.

For boys I'd suggest:
Rowan
Oakley
Torben
Brome

For girls:
Romily
Indigo
Xanthe
Fenn

I'm not keen on Maverick - it's one of those names that's heavily suggestive of a certain type of character and could be a lot to live up to. Also the shortening to Mav. Brekken is a name that suggests your child can be anything he wants...Maverick suggests he will be shoe-horned into being a bit of a rebel and will probably rebel against this rebellenous and become an actuary or a tax inspector instead.

If it's Norwegian names you are after, I recently read the Red River of the North series by L. Snelling about the Norwegian pioneers in Dakota.
Some of the male Norwegian names in the books were: Roald, Thorliff, Haaken

I think a scandi type name would work well. Other names i like that may work are Arran and Brodie.

jurassic Yep totally agree. What do people get out of belittling people, Brekken, for an unusual name, is up there with the best.

I used to know a Brecon but he was Irish so probably spelt differently. Brecin maybe. Anyway it sounds like a nice name to me.

Oh also know a little boy named Holden.

everyone thought it sounded strange when his name was announced, but he totally owns the name and it's hugely grown on me. Could go nicely with Brekken?

Oh, and also we had Maverick on our list for DS2, I really pushed for it but in the end we chose Sullivan.

I really liked Maverick/Mav but I just knew that DS1 would end up being labelled Goose for his entire life.

I posted on baby names years ago about my first born's name - I was looking for a middle name. It was mocked mercilessly. I was taken aback and upset and didn't post on here for ages afterwards. It is far from an unusual name and is quite traditional, along the lines of Annie, but posters were horrible.

I think people from the UK can be pretty narrow minded about names, I mean, look at this comment: "why a Norwegian name if your not from Norway". The UK itself is a melting pot of cultures and has all kinds of names that originate from all over Europe. A comment like that just shows your total ignorance.

Brekken is a cool name, I really like it. I don't have any suggestions for other names just wanted to add my two pence.

What's so weird about Brekken? I know of one, and also the actor Breckin Mayer from Franklin & Bash/Road Trip.

Not sure why so many posters have so little imagination and such a mean streak...

I really like Heath, but also Soren is lovely.

I know a little boy called Maverick. The name really suits him.

Or how about Hunter? Another name I think is both kind of "unusual" but easy to pronounce etc

I don't go on the baby names threads that much and I normally dislike 'unique' names, but love Brekken! It sounds very Nordic and cool, like some of the other names on this thread. It almost makes me wish I'd picked a name like that for ds, especially as he looks a bit like he could be from that part of the world.

Love the name Brekken, very smart. Soren and Nairn seem like beautiful options, can't think of any myself but would consider Soren myself
