DH and I are TTC DC2 (not right now - I'm not that good A multitasker Wink).

Just day(evening?)dreaming and thinking of potential names for the hypothetical DC2. Any ideas?

sanityisamyth · 30/11/2016 21:23

My sister is Jenny (Jennifer) if that helps?

TiggeryBear · 30/11/2016 21:19

I have a Lucy & if we have have another daughter would love to call her Emma

akorda · 30/11/2016 21:13

I know these sibsets:

Emma and Sophie (under 5)
Emma and Katy (under 5)
Emma and Rachel (our generation)
Emma and Martha (our gen)

I agree - not Anna or any name ending in -a

Harriet goes beautifully with Emma. Very Bronte too

KlingybunFistelvase · 30/11/2016 16:28

I think of Emma as a strong name too, which is why I like it, but I do love Laura! Have added to list.

I like Joe as a nn for Jonah, but can't use Jonathan as it's the name of a really horrible ex of mine.

The Emma's I know have brothers called Joe and Jonathan.

MabelFurball · 30/11/2016 16:03

Emma needs to go with something soft like Laura or Leah.

Thanks all!

No, I don't think we'd go for anything terribly wacky / out there.

I love Jasper as an alternative to James! I'm really not keen on James anymore. I think it's because we moved to a new area and I don't like James in some people's accents here Blush. I have ruled out names with 'th' sounds as well - I love Martha, Edith and Theodore, but these become Mah-fah, Ee-diff and Feodaw here! Don't get me wrong, I massacre names in my own, pretty common strong, regional accent and people round here make them sound a lot nicer than I would. It just means we have to choose something which works in both accents iyswim.

I agree that Emma goes with anything, except maybe really "out there" names as one child might feel a bit short-changed.

You could go current, vintage, girly, quirky... I honestly think anything goes (helpful).

I love your idea of Margaret/Maggie and think it would be a perfect fit. For a boy, my first thought was also James but if you're wavering on that one now, how about something similar a bit quirkier like Jasper, Jago or Jude?

emwithme · 29/11/2016 22:48

I'm an Emma and my brothers are Tony (well, Anthony), Mark and Joseph but they were born in the 60s and 70s so that probably doesn't help you one tiny little bit

I like Emma. It's one of those names that goes with ANYTHING...

DoinItFine · 29/11/2016 22:34

I don't think an Emma and an Anna would work.

But maybe an Emma and a Hannah?

I love Margaret.

For boys - Joseph, Tom, Liam

KlingybunFistelvase · 29/11/2016 22:33

Eleanor and Ellen are possibly my favourite girl names ATM, but i can't use them annoyingly Angry.

Caspar and Annabel are nice too.

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 29/11/2016 22:30

Zoe, Ellen, Alexander, Cora, Eleanor, Natalia, Elizabeth, Nancy

Stephen, Caspar, Matthew

EccentricPickle · 29/11/2016 22:28

I knew twins called Emma and Kate.

I also knew another little Emma who had sisters called Kate and Annabel. So Emma definitely comes with a Kate! Grin

For boys I think James or Harry goes nicely with Emma. Has to be a classic name, just like Emma.

KlingybunFistelvase · 29/11/2016 22:23

Jane was also on our list with DD. Not sure why it was vetoed, but it was.

I LOVE Anastasia! Would people immediately think of "I'm outta love" though?

I am also massively overthinking, since I am not even slightly pregs!

Vango · 29/11/2016 22:18

EssentialHummus · 29/11/2016 22:16

Xmasfairy86 · 29/11/2016 22:13

borntohula · 29/11/2016 22:11

not a fan of Margaret but Rachel is lovely ! I like Anastasia as well... i've spent too much time thinking about this for someone who is not having any more children.
