Gabriel

We are still struggling to decide on a boy's name for if our baby due in a week is a boy. Recently we have been thinking about Gabriel. What are people's thoughts? Too much teasing potential? Would Gabe be inevitable? Our other choices are James, Samuel or Theodore.

I went to school with a Gabriel. He was never bullied. It's a lovely name.

I love this name, suggested it for our baby but my hubby doesn't like it 😔

enchantmentandlove · 29/11/2016 22:49

I love Gabriel - I used to look after a little boy with the name, and his nickname was Gabe which I always think it's really cute

Velvetbee · 29/11/2016 22:41

My Gabriel is 19 now. It's a beautiful name and he's never mentioned being teased.

Besplendour · 28/11/2016 23:25

I like it a lot, actually. Reminds me of Matthias Schoenaerts as Gabriel Oak in Far from the Madding Crowd.

ScarletSienna · 28/11/2016 20:16

I don't know any Gabriel's that get called Gay-all Gabe or just Gabriel Smile

zazie7 · 28/11/2016 14:36

Wow, thanks for the comments. A lot more positive than I expected. DoraDunn, I was worried about teasing such as shortening it to Gay or that it sounds too feminine as some people have suggested this could be an issue. I know children can be teased for any name/reason but just not sure if this name would make it too easy...

I love Gabriel - and I think of Gabriel Byrne the actor who I rather like too...

ScarletSienna · 27/11/2016 23:10

Love it! It is one of my favourite boy names. It's not super popular in terms of usage but I know a few now with it as a first or middle name.

SimonNeilshair · 27/11/2016 21:06

If it's teasing you're concerned about, you need to think of the names of the children he will grow up with, he won't be in a class of Daves, Matts and Deans.

Gabriel really doesn't stand out as unusual these days

Shesaysso · 27/11/2016 20:46

Also love it - do it!

TheWiseOldElf · 27/11/2016 20:45

It is my all time favourite boys name but DH (along with most men I know unfortunately) thinks teasing is inevitable Sad

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2016 20:43

It's a lovely name.

SnowmanEnvy · 27/11/2016 20:43

I love it! I wasn't allowed it by DH though!

dementedma · 27/11/2016 20:40

Gabriel is a great name.If you don't want it abbreviated to Gabe, then just don't accept that as a nn.
My ds is Joseph. Not Joe. Not Joey. Just Joseph.

SimonNeilshair · 27/11/2016 20:36

it's my nearly 5 year old name and I still love it! he's never been teased, but teasing can happen with any name!

He does get called Gabe but recently has stated he prefers Gabriel.

When he was born, a friend described the name as being strong but gentle, which I think is a very good description Smile

DoraDunn · 27/11/2016 20:30

I think it's a lovely name. Gabe is also a fab nn. Why would he get teased? It's a perfectly mainstream boys' name. Not too popular but no out there either. It's a great name.

Bombaybunty · 27/11/2016 20:29

It's my DS middle name, I love it!

MrsMulder · 27/11/2016 20:27

I love Gabriel too

Muskey · 27/11/2016 20:26

Had our dd been a boy we would have called here Gabriel. She is called Gabrielle by the way

OohhThatsMe · 27/11/2016 18:47

It's a really lovely name.

dailymaillazyjournos · 27/11/2016 18:47
