Surnames as first names

Suggestions?

I know that surnames used as first names often doesn't go down well on MN, but I actually do quite like it.

Any suggestions?

Just be aware that for a good few years (school!) your child will be called the other way round as well... my BIL says he was always called his surname as it is a first name too...

My Nephew has just been called Mason , thats getting popular too .

I wanted Taylor for a middle name for my dc its my last name but we didn't choose it in the end.

Certain surnames are now acceptable as given names, e.g. Tracy but most are unacceptable as first names. It's perfectly normal, however, to give a child his/her mother's surname as a middle name. My friends, whose surnames were Lindsay (hers) and Miller (her husband's) gave their son the name Lindsay as a middle name. I think that was a good idea since if he wishes to drop the name Miller, he still has his mother's surname to use.

I had a great-uncle Watson, born in about 1915, so it's definitely not a new thing. One thing to watch is how it flows with your surname, though. There's a baby in our family along the lines of Jackson West, which sounds more like a firm of estate agents than a person.

I have a Miller. However it is a family name and has been used in DH's family for generations as a middle name, so it's certainly not a new new thing.
