My 3 month old daughter has a name that isn't that common (isn't in the top 100) which I like. I never shorten it, but don't care what other people do, if they used the known shortenings.

There's a NN I honestly never thought of, they're saying it to take the piss (family) but go on to say how she'll get it all her life anyway, so they are starting her young Hmm

I'm thinking of changing it to Grace, I know that's popular, but there's no offensive NNs, is there?

Your family sounds a bit insensitive, I can't imagine anyone calling her Gobby Gabby and even if they do, it's really not that bad, I went to school with a Myrtle and thanks to JK Rowling, she was Moaning Myrtle throughout high school, even though she never moaned Hmm

If you like it, stick with it. Sounds like your family will be arses whatever you choose

My dd has a name which is often shortened, I don't like the shortened version. Ex-h's family insist on calling her by the short version, absolutely no one else does. Not me or my family, no one at school, none of her friends, no one from clubs or other activities. Literally everyone else can get the concept that her name is the long version and that's what she wants to be called. Never been an issue. So I would say that if you still like the name, stick with it, NNs are by no means inevitable.

Gabriella is a beautiful name. Just ignore your family.

Name is Gabriella. They are currently calling her Gobby Gabby. I know it isn't the worst thing in the world, but they just make me feel bad about it, saying that's what her teachers will be calling her in the staff room... Yet they have no idea if she'll even be 'gobby'. I just don't like the way they say it tbh.

Niece is Grace, she gets called Gracie most of the time... What's the name/nn?

EssentialHummus · 22/11/2016 18:23

What's the name/NN?

Honestly, it sounds as though your family is being a bit cruel or not getting how sensitive you are about this.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/11/2016 18:23

What's the name OP ?
Grace is a nice name, she could get Gracie.
Are your family taking the Mick, if they are, they're cruel. 😡
