I've gone off my 3 month old's name... Help!

My 3 month old daughter has a name that isn't that common (isn't in the top 100) which I like. I never shorten it, but don't care what other people do, if they used the known shortenings.

There's a NN I honestly never thought of, they're saying it to take the piss (family) but go on to say how she'll get it all her life anyway, so they are starting her young Hmm

I'm thinking of changing it to Grace, I know that's popular, but there's no offensive NNs, is there?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

3months old & bullied by your family.Sad

Normandy144 · 22/11/2016 19:07

Just out of interest, is Muppet Mark your brother? It sounds like the kind of dickhead behaviour from a brother to wind his sister up. And it's clearly working. You need to ride out the storm, until they get bored of it and also she can stand up for herself.

BobbieDog · 22/11/2016 19:07

Skid mark would be an appropriate name to call him

tellyjots · 22/11/2016 19:05

Muppet Mark has a certain ring to it.

My name is Sukie. My father's family hate it. They insisted on calling me Spookie when I was young and Sue when I got older. My mother told them to stop but they didn't. My grandfather actually told me to my face that he hated my name and would never call me that. I told him I loathed Sue and it wasn't my name.

My mum told me why she had called me Sukie when I was old enough to understand and I never had any issues at school. In the end I just wouldn't answer them if they called me Sue and always signed cards to them with my proper name.

I decided it was their issue not mine and I love my mum. Keep the name you love

lottieandmia · 22/11/2016 19:01

Gabriella was on my shortlist. Your family sound rude and obnoxious TBH. It's a lovely name. So is Grace but I don't see why you should have to change it just because your family are deliberately being mean.

Normandy144 · 22/11/2016 19:01

Ooooh Maggotface Mark, moronic Mark, minging Mark, motherfucker Mark.....shall I go on?

Meeep · 22/11/2016 19:01

I think Marsehole Mark has a certain ring to it.
He's bullying you, using your tiny baby! What a wanker. Tell him if he ever says Gobby or Gobs again you'll never speak to him again. Gabriella is a beautiful name.

SquedgieBeckenheim · 22/11/2016 18:58

I know a Gabriella. She NEVER gets called Gobby (and she is).
Kids will always find a way to make up a cruel nickname. Your family are being childish.

FRETGNIKCUF · 22/11/2016 18:57

Wow your family call a baby gobby? They sound delightful

QueenOfTheNaps · 22/11/2016 18:57

Gabriella is a lovely name, I prefer it to Grace.

Have you asked your (arsehole) family to stop calling her Gobby? Tell them you don't like it! If they didn't stop I'd be tempted to stop visiting really... they aren't being very nice

Donttouchthepoop · 22/11/2016 18:57

I had a similar thing, my dd was very big when she was newborn, as in massive hands and feet. My exes family took to calling her Miranda (like the lovely but very tall comedian) and only stopped when i had a hormonal breakdown into tears. They are being cruel, and not at all right in any way, i myself have grown up with Gabby's, and not once known them to be called b
Gobby. Id nip it in the bud and have stern words

mummyplus7 · 22/11/2016 18:56

I'm a teacher and I would never dream of calling a student Gobby Gabby even in the staff room to other teachers! We don't use horrible nicknames behind their backs like that.

GettingitwrongHauntingatnight · 22/11/2016 18:56

Agree with giving them charming nn. Pervy Pete, loud Lou, shabby Sharon ala Horrid Henry.

Ilikegin · 22/11/2016 18:56

Your family sound like a bunch of dicks OP!
Don't be swayed to change the name, it's beautiful!

OreoHeaven · 22/11/2016 18:56

Hell your family are very rude.

I've never ever heard of Gobby Gabby. Gabriella is beautiful. Keep it.

I'd go nuts at the family. It's plain nasty of them and don't be bullied by this campaign.

GettingitwrongHauntingatnight · 22/11/2016 18:55

Lovely name. Your family are wankers

MadisonMontgomery · 22/11/2016 18:54

Seriously tho, I would never think Gabriella = Gobby. Your family need to grow the fuck up. I would be thinking of some seriously nasty, personal nicknames and calling them by them - see how they like it.

megletthesecond · 22/11/2016 18:52

Manky Mark from now on then.

Sandsnake · 22/11/2016 18:52

Oh you mean Mardy Mark? Wink I have never heard Gobby Gabby. Gabriella is lovely - please don't change it! They do need to stop though. I think that seriously (rather than jokingly or angrily) telling them to please stop is the way forward. It's a bit ridiculous as it's not even a funny nickname.

3luckystars · 22/11/2016 18:50

You have to start calling them names back until they stop.

Hows gobby?
Fine shitface shiela. How are you?

Or
Oh look at little gobby. Shes smiling!
I know. That for noticing fucker phil!
Etc.

VioletRoar · 22/11/2016 18:50

I'd never associate Gabriella with gobby gabby! Keep the name, it's beautiful.

triggy80 · 22/11/2016 18:48

I work in a school with a gobby gabby and a scabby gabby. And shock horror a Gabrielle (not shortened no additional name) There are also about 500 other children with ridiculous NNs given to them by their peers.I really wouldn't base your name choice on this. I thought I had considered all of the possible variations and NNs for my DS but still I regularly hear new weird and wonderful ones. Unfortunately it's just not something you can control!

RaingodsWithZippos · 22/11/2016 18:48

My DS has spent most of his life known as Thomas Twp (from the film The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill and Came Down A Mountain) - Twp is Welsh for a bit dim. It used to bother me but then he has embraced it and thinks it's funny.

Agree with PP- think of vile nns for your family (eg Skanky Susan, Pongy Peter) and use them repeatedly

RabbitSaysWoof · 22/11/2016 18:47

Keep the name, ditch the family.
There is no reason she will need to put up with gobby, won one other than them will think of it.
