I've gone off my 3 month old's name... Help!

My 3 month old daughter has a name that isn't that common (isn't in the top 100) which I like. I never shorten it, but don't care what other people do, if they used the known shortenings.

There's a NN I honestly never thought of, they're saying it to take the piss (family) but go on to say how she'll get it all her life anyway, so they are starting her young Hmm

I'm thinking of changing it to Grace, I know that's popular, but there's no offensive NNs, is there?

Gabriella is a beautiful name. I'd never think to call a Gabriella Gobby unless she really was gobby. Your family are being unreasonable and dickish. Don't change her gorgeous name just because some people are knobs, tell them every time they say it that you don't want her called that. I have a name that many people tell me is a lovely name but due to nicknames and mispronunciations (as a shy child I was always having to draw attention to myself to correct adults) I learned to hate it from a very young age. Don't let them give her a complex about her name.

Beautiful name and I've never heard this awful nickname despite living a long time. Besides, what's this stupid 'getting her used to it' shite? She's a few weeks old, she doesn't even know her real name yet Confused

Sorry Mark's such a fool OP Flowers Tell him that and also tell him that nicknames evolve naturally over time and generally come from the peer group not a nasty minded decision by a narky relative.

My DCs are universally known by nicknames, but they don't relate to their given names at all anyway.

Gabriella is a lovely name, know of one other born this past year. Keep it, you love it! Your family are being extremely unkind. Ignore them.

Gabriella is a beautiful name (slighlty biased as its my middle name)

Grace is very common at the moment.

Gabriella is truly lovely.

I know two adult Gabriellas who are Gabby/Gabi and a teenage Gabriella who is mostly Gabriella but occasionally Gigi at home.

Neer heard anyone being called Gobby. Don't sweat it!

One of my sisters is called Gabrielle, and had never been called this nn. I also work in a school and have never heard anyone refer to the 2 Gabriella's as that either.
Is a beautiful, graceful name.

I agree with what other people have said and if you like the name then ignore. That said, if you pick a nickname yourself you can redirect them saying please either call her Gabriella or ..... I love the nickname Gigi for Gabriella. If only I had a daughter to use the name!!!

I work in a school - we have the WORLD'S MOST talkative child called Gabriella.

She has never in her life been called Gobby Gabby, and trust me, if any child could own that nickname she could.,..but she doesn't ever get called that.

Gabriella is a beautiful, elegant and classy name.
Your family are the complete opposite of this.
That is your problem.

Are they doing it to wind you up because they feel you have got "above your station" for want of a better way of putting it? I'm very puzzled as to why they are reacting like this. It suggests there is a back story.

I think your family are being jealous. You don't slag off someones name to their mother unless you want to hurt that person, they obv want to upset you and would prob make a joke of any name that you picked. I think Gabriella is gorgeous. Nice people dont say nasty things remember that
