I always worry that I'm not pronouncing it the way the parents intend. Eevlin or evlin?

It was in my top three. It's a lovely name.

I was a bit worried about the two pronunciations thing. But I was served by a grown up Evelyn in a shop, and she said she'd never come across the ev-eh-Lin way, everyone called her eve-Lin automatically.

In the end we went with another name because I have taught about 2 million Evies and was a bit worried that I'd get cross with people calling her that. If you don't mind that then go for it!Smile

I love it and it's always been on my baby girl short-list. What puts me off is that it's so popular now. My mum's a primary school teacher and there are 3 Evelyns in her class! I have a baby girl due next year and she continues to be nameless....

We have an Evelyn pronounced the way you like, OP, and very few people call her "Eve-lyn". We're in Scotland so it might be different, I guess.

It's a beautiful, classic name that works for all ages. Smile

I have only ever heard it pronounced Eve-Lyn. I know one and that's she pronounces it.

If you look on Kindle at how many people have highlighted that name in baby name books it seems really popular at the moment.

I have an Evelyn pronounced the way you like it, it's a beautiful name the that will see her through all stages of life. mine is nearly 13, I'm amazed at how it has grown in popularity. Saying that I've only met a handful of children with the name in 13 years!

Don't do it. She will be Eve and I swear every one of my dds friends is named eve. At one stage a third of the girls in dds class were named a variant of eve. It's officially full. This generations Sarah.

i wouldn't call a kid any variation of Eve, Evie, Evelyn, Eva, Ava... there are about 40 in every primary school I've been in. DD (aged 9) once had a party, and apart from her friend Holly every single kid there had an Eve name...

Not round here simon! Eve far and away the most frequently used girls name. Nice name obv but if popularity bothers you one to avoid.
